Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Darren not a great pic but this is the front of mine with cooler across front bumper and battery moved to other side.
It's nice and neat and I've never seen the temp gauge on my car ever rise so it certainly is effective!

Probably the best set-up there is although I'm sticking with an R type front bumper so will have to keep cooling in the wing.
Like the front strut.

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Darren the brass cooler was fitted to the SC in 1980 onwards I believe until replaced with the 3.2 cooler in 1985 ish (different timings in the US). Up until then the simple trombone loop was used that had been introduced in 1973 so this was the direct successor.Darren65 wrote:Is that not a later SC oil cooler?

I'm trying to keep everything on this car pre-78 so will probably go with a trombone cooler. I appreciate the offer Dan.

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Surprise (very light) package arrived first thing this morning....

....consisting of composite bonnet, engine lid and front bumper. I already have a lightweight rear bumper...

The panels look well made, good quality and are very light, I suppose the real test will be when it comes to fitting.
I ended up going for panels from Getty Design in California via their agent Mike Shaw, ordered and delivered in under 10 days!
A good price to start with, this became even better as the package managed to slip past the VAT man!
I now have what seem like a 911 in kit form in my office; being assembled very soon

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Second day running and another nice package…
…I really liked the solid spoke style of the Jackie Ickx steering wheel Nick posted earlier in this thread and on my worldwide search for the elusive flat/black/Momo/370mm I came across this little beauty….
…not as sweet as Nick's and nowhere near as cool as a flat/black/Momo/370mm; a Prototipo S in amazing condition with just a light patina at a great price - the clincher was the 3/78 build stamp which matches the imaginary build date I set for this car perfectly
….

The hunt for a flat/black/Momo/370mm continues although from what I'm learning that may be a journey that never ends!
I also think these 350mm wheels may prove too small and might consider a 380mm standard wheel with a hockey puck horn push if I can find a nice original one.
Are the 911 and 914 part numbered 380mm wheels the same with just different part numbers?
Cheers,

Darren - there are no 911 part-numbered 380mm wheels ...

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Cheers Andy,
Looking at PET it gives a part number of 911 347 084 00 for the RS wheel - I assumed all the 380mm wheels I've seen with a part number starting 914 may have been different?
Where am I going wrong??

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Hi
I would also be interested to know what the various part numbers are for the 380mm RS steering wheels? I gather there were a few different numbers depending on the specific finish.
Does anyone also have the non-RS 380mm part numbers as well for reference?
Thanks!

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Sorry, Darren, after I posted that reply I thought you might have been hinting at that ...
That 911 part number refers to a 914/6 380mm leather wheel (bearing the number 914.347.806.10) - the only 380mm wheel fitted as std to the 2.7RS models.
There are 7 different versions of the 914 380mm wheel & all of them have the same number & diameter of splines. Some are a direct fit on an early 911 & some require minor modifications to fit but the only version ever fitted to an RS was the one above (& prices have risen accordingly in recent years).
