What a nice project, and it is great for having freedom thinking.

Dare i say i did this a long time ago without realising it...
I modded mine for hillclimbs but it is a road car, driven too/away from the events for 15 years. Just great great fun.

I wanted a stock 1973T look but now with a 3.2 and other mods that were 'newish' then, and called a hotrod now.

I am building up to a re-restoration as the first was in 1988 and it is a bit 'rustic' round the edges now, so due.

1973 T
3.2 engine /box
Turbo bits on suspension
Roll cage
7" Dage Sport wheels
Stock drilled brakes (and a strong right leg)
Cloth(!) sun roof
Fibre glass bonnet
Proto typo wheel
Snazzy Rs type seat, Torino something
No sound deadening
3 out exhaust.
Other bits...
Bliss.

Lola t 492 / 3.2 hillclimb racer

Had a visit from the 'Special One' on Tuesday…..

Image

…and the prognosis is….near side front wing has seen some action causing a slight crease to the inner bulked, replace...

Image

Image

…lower front floorpan, as usual

Image

…new rear quarters, leave on for now, to be carefully unpicked and refitted later….and the roof?…bin it, this car needs to lose weight..

Image

…generally all very good, so along with the usual repairs to floor, sill, lower front screen corners etc. we'll keep the steel front wings and fit fibreglass bonnet, engine lid and rear bumper and build in some additional body strengthening for good measure…

…let work commence early Spring

On a day of Porsche I also visited the other 'Special One' at Redtek to drop off the 2.2S…

Image

Amidst talk of a 2.5 litre ST type engine with twin spark ignition, new Mahle barrels and pistons, 40mm at the ports and exhaust, 42mm butterflies, new cams and race headers, Nick showed me the twin spark distributors he produces…

Image

…it looks very similar to the original at a fraction of the cost (if you can find one!) 8)

It always amazes me how enthusiastic Nick gets when discussing engine builds, it's incredibly infectious even if most of it does go over my head, it seem like these engines are the most exciting thing in the world to him. The plan with this engine isn't to go for out and out horsepower, just one that's well built with all the right bits, that screams like a Banshee to 7500 revs, and is very quick - it does seem though that my initial 230 BHP estimate might be a tad conservative!

Great to think that an engine that currently looks like this…

Image

…will soon be looking as fresh as this 8)

I meet Nick at CLM this year. Nice man. Does he ever work on flat 4 engines? Not that I need anything doing just asking for future reference.

I didn't ask him at the time because I think we were discussing the clever cooking they were doing (almost more impressive than Steve's 356).

A previous custodian of this project who owned the car back in the early 1980's (and recently sent me the car's original handbooks which he'd kept since then :P ) has been trying to locate a few photos he has of the car back in the day…..

….the photos are proving elusive at the moment so he kindly sent a picture of his vehicle which now wears the registration plate that once graced the 911….

A Bristol 412 Zagato 8) ...

Not exactly 911 Street Racer inspiration but a magnificent looking vehicle all the same :)

Managed to find a dished 350mm Prototipo style early steering wheel (can anyone date it?).

Unfortunately the seller gave it a 'refurb' and it came heavily stained hiding much of the original patina! - a quick clean up with thinners helped reveal some of its previous charm, with a little more sympathetic cleaning it should look quite sweet…..

Alas, I'm still looking for a slightly larger diameter flat black Monza, Le Mans or Prototipo if anyone out there would like to see part of their collection put to good use! :bounce:

I would be very, very grateful!

May I ask what a "Amidst talk of a 2.5 litre ST type engine with twin spark ignition" is? Apart from the obvious :) I'm guessing these were used in some 911 at Le Mans?

An older prototipo I have is dated on the rear of one of the spokes, I presume yours has no marks?

Date codes on Momo wheels started appearing in the mid-late '70's.

The 'stacked' Momo logo on your wheel indicates that your wheel is from the late '60's/early '70's.
