Instrument Refurbishment

Post by JohnS »

I'm looking to get my instruments refurbished this winter. With the pound as it is can you recommend a UK company to do this work. Any idea on cost? Speedy Cables looks like one?
Many thanks

I always use Speedy Cables. They are a bit slow so get the instruments to them now.

I have used speedy and their end product is good but their turnaround was something like 20 working days when I used them. They also noughted my speedo rather than leaving as is or calling me to ask if they can nought it. I had to constantly badger them for an update after their 20 days was up too. That doesn't fill you with confidence as a customer.

Have you seen this thread?

Thanks Nick and James. I called JDO on friday and got a rather blunt reply that they repair instruments only - they don't refurbish! Their web site is very cluttered but from your thread looks like they offer an excellent repair service. I'll give Speedy cables a call on Monday.

JDO repaired a non working odometer/trip for me recently. Very quick and efficient service, but what a website

I likewise experienced the JDO telephone customer experience recently

After a difficult conversation (at one point I thought why am I persevering here) he eventually explained to me that he repairs non working odometers and tests calibration for VDO gauges and thats it.

He made it very clear that he didnt want to have any further customer contact other than returning the gauge without the need to speak to me again. I had to specify the mileage I wanted shown on the gauge (which incidentally is not what it was returned with  ) He did turn it round quick enough though and the gauge is working again, albeit after a hissy fit the first time I zero'd it after a fill up at the pumps.

As said above, the website is a joke and be prepared for an interesting telephone manner :?

Hi
I sent the gauges for my 911s to North Hollywood Speedo in California.
Prompt service and came back looking brand new.

Not sure if this will help but for a 993RS which had white dials (not as it left the factory obvioulsy) I simply asked Porsche Swindon to do it. Got charged £300 and you would never know that they were never black in the first place. Job was truly impressive and took around 2 weeks. Cannot recall where they sent them off to though/

From what I've read, I think some of the OPCs use Julian Reap :)
