I can see no obvious reason why it should not be done. Very little heat involved and no obvious stress. I would be happy to have mine protected like this.Sean wrote:I thought that early 911's could not be galvanised without distorting the shape of the tub...
I'll admit my ignorance on this ....but I clearly remember someone telling me it could/should not be done. Hence the reason people are backdating or reshelling cars.

£5k with a repaint (providing it's top quality) doesn't seem that bad...
Do you know what state do you have to hand the car to them in (i.e. fully stripped?) and what kind of guarantees do they offer?
It certainly seems a good idea when you think how much is often invested in welding the shell up and still having the potential weak spots rusting again - surely it must add value if you ever chose to sell.
I had thought about how you could get the shell galvanised before a repaint - wonder where they get it done?

This is the email they sent me
The actual galvanizing process costs £3500.00 which is inclusive of all hand finishing that will be necessary prior to painting.
Normally the client will deliver the car, we then completely strip the car down to its bare chassis, attend to any repairs that may be required and make good any poor previous repairs. Once the chassis has been galvanized and hand finished we prepare the chassis for painting, most clients have all the other panels painted at the same time, we then carefully reassemble the car using all new fixings and rubber seals etc. The cost of this process complete is typically £5000.00 dependant on the client’s final brief.

Wow!
I think I'll give them a call. Either there's a nought missing from the left of the decimal point in their price, or ....
Definitely worth investigating further.

Suppose this counts as my first spotted
then as it's my car,if you'd like to send me a mail can give you more info.
People who actually do the galvenising do work for Jaguar,Toyota motorsport divisions,a frame is built to brace the shell when it's dipped so there's no distortion,oh and it's been painted now,a very good job too.

Maybe I am being a little pedantic with this but is this for the whole body or just the chassis? I know to my cost that when I quote for a specific job to be done I actually specify work to be carried out. ie: a roof repair does not include re-pointing the chimney rebuilding the conservatory etc. You can do an awfull lot of rust proofing for £3500.Once the chassis has been galvanized and hand finished we prepare the chassis for painting,
