Steve, originally the plan was CLM but this was ditched some time ago - second planned date was my daughter's Prom which is still a year away although apparently she's now binned this idea and decided to go by bus! :shock:

Obviously I'm itching to get to the end but no rush, just as long as it's 'right' 8)

Thanks Jon - we originally chose Teroson Terolan 53 Special seam sealer although found it difficult to get a nice brushed finish so binned this and opted for Teroson Terostat 9320 Superfast which comes in tubes and can be used in a beading gun, we just used a mastic gun and then brushed it which gave a great look. Not cheap though! :shock:

The under seal is Teroson Terotex Record 2000HS - the 2000 line is Teroson's only oil based under seal, the rest obviously being water based, it goes on as thick or as thin as you like and can be built to replicate the factory job plus it has a slightly rubberised texture which I'm told doesn't become brittle over time like regular stone chip.

Rich's biggest recommendation would be the top coat - RM Graphite HD - again a 2K product which goes on beautifully and seems to get harder and harder as it dries. Like Glasurit, RM are a divison of BASF Coatings. Fantastic stuff. 8)

Thanks Mick - I'll definitely report on how things go.

Best thing we've learnt is not to try and gap the car on a spit - although the shells are solid there's still a degree of play and if we'd got things right in the air it could have all changed when the car was put on it's suspension! :shock:

It was great to start with Barry's perfectly restored shell although there's still been a lot of effort and a few headaches keeping it that way - as Barry said he gapped everything at 4mm so we still had 0.5mm to play with!!!!

Your car is at a great stage BTW - really looking forward to seeing it finished 8)

Interesting photo Rich - do you think that was the original underseal and was it an ochre or off whiteish colour when you scraped it off?

Hi - I'm pretty sure it was the original stuff & it was ochre and off whitish underneath, I'm assuming the black colour is the black paint that went underneath the arches, engine bay, etc as they did in the 70-71 era rather than body colour (may have been before too, but don't know about other years... :-))

I dropped in to see Darren today and learn some more about how to really get on with a project... and I can tell you that this looks as good in the metal as it does in the pics, great work from everyone involved.

It's really good to hear Darren & Co talk about the process and easy to see why this is coming together so well, such meticulous attention to detail and a desire to get it exactly right. Lovely work, well done boys & will be great to see it fully completed 8)

Spending a long weekend with a bunch of early 911 enthusiasts leads to a certain amount of influence and peer pressure (or should that be Rich pressure :wink: )...

...anyway I finally succumbed and found myself a nice original badge (thanks Tim)...
