New T6 replica

Hi Y'all - Happy New Year.

I've just returned from visiting the Mohr [ Classic Roadsters ] workshops / showroom in Dresden. I've got some photos of the Roadster T6 Replica [ nee 356 Speedster ], which Pablo was enquiring about.
However, try as I might, I can't seem to master the knack of posting pics on the site! However, I AM a self confessed computer dummy - any tips? I've tried to follow the IMG / URL route, but don't seem to be able to crack it. I've also got some pics of their 550A Spyder chassis. the 550 demo car is nearing completion and really looks the biz. They are just putting the finishing touches to the RHD versions of both models. In the event that I can't post pics - there is a brief report of the Roadster T6 on the www.totalkitcar.com site [ with pic.].

Would really appreciate it if you can find a way to get the pictures up on the site. I have been looking for a top quality 356 replica for some time now (cant afford the real thing!) but generally have been disappointed in currently available models. If the T6 is true to its origins, then I would be very interested. Any news on a UK distributor yet?

New German manufacturer Classic Roadsters……….might not be a familiar name but the man behind the company is – Jurgen Mohr, the original creator of the Dax Rush. Mohr has many diversified business interests from coffee dispensers to artificial limbs and his new range of specialist cars will include 356 Speedster and 550 Spyder. The first replica will be a ‘T6’ Speedster, which in Porsche geneology succeeded the Convertible D and preceeded the classic 911 – and featured  - higher front wings, squared off bonnet, wind up windows with Convertible D style windscreen. A UK agent will be appointed early in 2005 although for those that can’t wait a £14.95 Easyjet flight to Leipzig will get you a testdrive of the factory demonstrator.

looks like Cubist has done the biz - that's the info I saw on the Total Kit Car site, but I've just come back with several more pics. I've driven the car, and I have to say it really is as good as it looks - given that the steering wheel is on the wrong side! Things that really impressed were the way that the windows, hood, doors, etc. all operated just like a real car! Really solid feel with absolutely no hint of scuttle shake or creaking and groaning. The day I drove it there was a torrential downpour - absolutely NO leaks, misting up etc. and it only took a matter of 60 seconds or so to put the hood up. It actually took longer to take the hood bag off than it did to put the hood up. Didn't like the over large rear window, but that's a requirement of TUV apparantly - the Uk version will have a more proportional window. I'd also like to see the car with overriders - an option apparantly.
The other plus point of the car was - that it is something different from the thousands of Speedster replicas. Time will tell if the increased practicality will win out over the "charm" of the Speedster.
All I know at the moment is that the UK appointed distributor will be based in Surrey - apparantly their web site will be published in the next couple of months. While I was at the factory I spotted various bodystyles - original Speedster, Cabriolet and a Coupe. They were a bit guarded when I asked about them, but the general gist was that they would be available through their UK distributor as body / chassis kits only. Cabriolet / Coupe Outlaws anyone? The 550A rep. was in for painting when I was there, so I couldn't get to drive it, but they have promised me a drive when I'm out there next- can't wait.
As promised, I'll get the info. up as soon as.

Hi Cubist - Many thanks for the pic - it certainly looks the business! I noticed Beachcombers reply too. Looks like I might have found the model I've been looking for at last.

With no disrespect to others who I am sure love their cars, in today's market, if one is looking to buy 'the best' then not only does it have to look good but it MUST handle properly too. I have personally owned RMB Gentry's, several street rods (home built) and a number of other replica vehicles but they all leaked like a seive, handled like canoes, misted up, rattled, twisted and generally after a year or so, looked SO tired and jaded that all the 'fun' of owning them, just disappeared.

I was glad to get rid of them all but each time, found that I just HAD to get another one, because of the need for an 'individual' look on the street. Being a bit older and a LOT wiser, I am now searching for the same look but with a quality finish with all the flaws ironed out rather than 'yet another' vehicle that I will become disillusioned with in a short space of time.

Beachcomber - do you know when the distributor will be announced and what availabiity/pricing etc is likely to be? If it is as good as you say and the price is right, I REALLY would like to get mine on the road for the Summer!!!!

I have to say it does look very nice. It looks as though alot of effort has gone in to getting the body just right. I am looking forward to seeing one in the uk at one of the kitcar shows. How close is the interior to the original?

Eager Beaver - I believe the UK distributor is being officially appointed at the end of this month - that would tie in with the info. I had about the launch of their website, etc. If you would like to contact me direct, I'll give you what info. I have to date, although you will soon be able to deal direct with the distributor.

Bazzaar - The interior uses widened Speedster seats as standard, although they do offer full size reclining Recaro [ period ] lookalikes as an extra. The rear seating area is very similar to original with individual fold down fully upholstered seats. As far as I can tell, the door panels, crash padding etc, looks pretty well as the original. I have got pics [ no David Bailey I'm afraid! ] of the front and rear seats, which I'll pass on as soon as I get the info. again about who to send them to. My refference books show the T6 Roadster with full size Recaro seats - very similar to those found in Karmann Ghia's - although one pic shows "Speedster" type seats - maybe the Speedster seats were an option? One item that really impressed was the aluminium windscreen surround and wind up windows - the side posts are polished cast aluminium, and like most of the details was modelled from a real car. Most wind up side window conversions [ Speedsters ] have appeared to be - what shall we say - a bit agricultural - not to mention plain ugly. Not only are these period correct, but actually are completely weatherproof - I drove the car in a torrential downpour - no leaks and no misting up - oh joy.

Thanks Cubist. I have tried a number of times to get some details on this car after hearing about it at a recent 356 meeting but failed miserably.

I like the idea of the wind up windows – I had a Speedster with those slot in side curtains which were bloody abysmal. Couldn’t see anything out of them normally and they just misted up when it rained making it safer to drive without them and put up with the soaking. I was going to get the Chesil wind up conversions, but they looked so ugly with that piece of metalwork attached to the door (not to mention expensive) that I decided I would rather put up with the leaks and misting up.

Eventually my wife refused to go out in the car when it rained as she declared the vision (or lack of) to be plain dangerous. Eventually I had to part with the car as being impractical. My “excuse” for buying the car in the first place was as a second family car that my wife would drive instead of which she drove me (mad to get rid of it that is!)

Does anyone know if the car is a true 2 + 2 with the hood up? I have two teenage kids (virtually adults) and have to ensure that I can get them in occasionally – the proportions of the Pilgrim 2 + 2 are so ugly, I don’t want to go down that route.

Beachcomber - you mentioned the Cariolet and Speedster models- will either be available in the UKas a kit? (I may have better luck building asa 'hobby at home' that owning and driving a leaky old dog!

Your right about the side windows being dangerous, as a car trimmer I had to make loads of them for vintage bentleys and rolls royces, and driving those tanks with side screens was near impossible. I own a chesil with wind up windows and I am thinking of doing a conversion to make it possible to remove that ugly piece of metal that hits the windscreen when the windows and hood are down. I think it may be possible to get this part to slot in and out. Has anyone done this before?

With reference to the T6 Roadster
I have been asked by the UK distributor of the Classic Roadster T6 to point out that the pics posted [ thanks to all who gave advice ] are NOT official photos and therefore NOT up to the professional standard that the manufacturer and distributor will provide as and when the car is officially launched. That's me told then!
They will be sending out official photos to the media and interested parties as soon as the final contractural details have been finalised. From my discussion with him, it would appear that they will have the official launch of the T6 sometime in Feb.
In answer to another query - both the Speedster and Cabriolet WILL be available as body chassis kits, but they have no intentions at present to offer complete cars. They went a bit deaf when I aked about the Coupe body that I saw in their workshops.
Again my thanks to all who tried to tell me how to post pics - guess I'll master it one day.

My thanks to Shambly for posting the T6 pics. Again, I have to emphasise that these are not official factory pics - and the pics were actually taken a couple of days before the car was completed [ note lack of w.wipers, chrome spreader strip on bottom seal, etc.] but will serve to give a good idea what the car is all about. When I spoke to the factory guys they said the price IN GERMANY with VERY HIGH specs would be "about the same as a top quality 356 Speedster replica." I guess there's only one or two of them in Europe / America?
Also, my main criticism was the over size rear window - this is a requirement for the German market - the UK car will have a window much more as the original T6. They also have to have satin black wipers and other silly requirements!
Another item I spotted in their workshop was an original Leitz style luggage rack - the most accurate repro I have ever seen, complete with red leather luggage / ski straps. It was manufactured from high quality stainless steel - want one! Most of the parts they have manufactured were taken from a real car - so theoretically these parts should retro fit on "real" cars?

The car looks fabulous!! I agree about the rear window - bit square fo my liking but maybe the official pics will show it in more detail once the refinements have been completed. Personally hope they put a door mirror on the standard package and offer the side chrome strips just to break up the large areas and give it a slightly more 'longer' look but I guess that can always be added on afterwards?

Looks good in the silver (dont they all) but I can also imagine it in a number of slightly more daring colours.......

Anyone else heard anything about 'actual' announce dates or who to talk to?
