if a load of pre A spares suddenly appear on the market from a common source it could be worth further investigation.... few of these cars around.

Very saddening, if not made worse by the apparent attitudes of the authorities.

I can only hope the insurance company would also have a vested interest in its recovery, so will make their own enquiries.

I wonder if its worth asking Porsche to put an alert out to their dealerships, seeing as its pretty much a heritage example ? Birds of a feather, and all that...

The latest thing is that even though there is a CCTV camera focused on the level-crossing half a mile down the road from where the car was stolen, the Police refuse to access any footage as they say it is of too low a quality to be of use. WTF? Surely any footage that might show a car on a trailer in the middle of the night passing across the railway (it's brightly lit) has to be some help, even if only to establish what time it happened? Sometimes I despair...

The old bill say let's wait for it to appear on an ANPR camera then won't even try looking at CCTV that is designed to give warning of a vehicle/pedestrian on a railway line...
Marvellous. :cussing:

Lord Montagu's son recently spoke on police cuts - any mileage in trying to get that name onside?

Sadly, it will be a zero priority crime :(

No one was hurt and no joyriders putting lives at risk..

If they had started a small riot outside and stolen a gnome from the garden they would have been hunted with dogs and sent down for 20yrs.

Can tell you that it was taken between 9.00pm Monday and 8.00am Tuesday.

All that's relevant here is that the car has been stolen and its identity (chassis #11176) is known.
Keith,
I am not trying to pry into personal areas but the question ought to be of interest to all those who own rare or special cars.
If it was taken from a locked garage, then we should all be very worried.
What further security measures should we take?
Microdots? Our own CCTV? Central station alarms, trackers?

To be honest, the best people to answer those questions would be the police or some security experts, rather than me. I'm not being obtuse, but I don't actually want to give away any details whatsoever of the situation regarding Del's car. It's not my place to do so. I know the full details but it's up to Delwyn to say.

At the end of the day, the reality of the situation is, if a professional crook wants your car, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. He will get it one day, even if it means holding a gun to your head as you sit at a set of traffic lights.

Keith,
I respect your reticence about giving further information concerning somebody else's misfortune.
When the time is right, can you encourage Mr Mallett to let us know what happened and what we can learn from his loss?
Yours,
Alex P

Sorry to hear of the theft,

as others have said, there is precious little you can do to stop the bas****s, but it has made me think much more about mine. I think a tracker is in order.

Will keep an eye open in this part of the world, people like Paul Smith and Andy Prill are obvious people to hear of early cars like this, I am certain they will be looking as well.

Last time a car was spirited away in the night (Mike's 2.4T) there was a big flurry of interest in trackers, not without due cause. I'm sure a search on here will turn up the threads

I have a different attitude to modern cars, if someone takes it I don't want it back, but I'd want my 911 back no matter what! :)

Is there a tracker out there that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I've got more than one car...
If you can buy a new mobile 'phone for £20, surely there's the technology out there for a beacon of some sort for few tenners?
Or is this a business opportunity?

Naah, it's John Prescott's fault for having two Jags.

There's a very cool system that you can fit for a couple of hundred quid that enables you to track the car on your phone and also disable it remotely. But as above, when stolen by professionals very few things are of help.

I got a cheap tracker - think it was about £60. Still works fine - whenever I phone it it hangs up and texts me a link to a map of its current location. If your search on tracker you should find the thread where I mention it. There was a lot of talk on the thread about spending loads of cash on one but as you say it's no longer rocket science. I've got a PAYG mobile card in it.

Last year I experienced a proper manufacturer-installed tracker. They phoned me whenever the car was started and my security card wasnt with it. Fantastically reassuring but cost a lot more than £60
The simple things you see are all complicated
