You can cut that old thing up for all I care. Just don't damage the metal grille. That's still the original!!

What a great story, but Mike, if you are listening to Radio 2 in the morning you will know that a complete story can be no more than 500 words :-)

I know nothing of number sequences, but from the photo the important digit in the secret inner sanctum of Porsche codes is the one that has been removed by someone drilling a hole there. It was really 9320012 :-)....meaning....goodness knows what, but I await the next instalment.

Or is is the 3,200th 912 ever built

Or it is the factory prototype for the original 911ST lightweight car ? .. but surely not RHD

All this reminds me of Del boy and Rodney ( or is it Dave?), another pair of TiT's (Trotters independent Traders, from 'Only Fools and Horses')).

Good fortune to you both, but I suspect it will be a long and arduous road that you take. Made even harder by Mike's commitment to authenticity

I am not surprised at the production # 320012. The South African 911S is 320011 and it's mate is 320010. Interesting that my database skipped 320012, but includes 320013 of which I know nothing. Be very careful with the paint badge, it may be as interesting as 320011. Note that 320011 did not have a production # on the knee frame, it was on the paint badge instead. What else do members know about the 3xxxxx series cars?
Mike, can you clean the type & build # up so as to be readable please. The build # looks like 147xx, and that is well before the 1968 series ended. Not surprising really since these were prototypes, and thus were produced in advance of the production run. Also need to get the transmission #'s.

So, to clarify (pleeeaaase!!!!), this is a pre production (prototype), first RHD 911E? Or is it the first production RHD 911E? :? I'm thinking the former but know nothing...

Amazing barn find and a journey of discovery

Post by Bruce M »

Looks to be a pre-production factory car. Not sure of their exact purpose. Perhaps test cars built to final proposed spec for final sign off before production began (hence slightly mismatched spec). One thing is certain, it must pre-date my Aug '68 guess and been built earlier in '68. Perhaps not the first lwb (lhd surely) but one of the earliest.

What's the chances this will end up the factory museum one day....!

looking at the pre-production numbers you can assume ? the '69 S cars were the 1st lwb ones , although I think all up to 11 were LHD .

So Mike, are we assuming the 1st pre-production RHD lwb 'prototype' or were the SA cars RHD too? If not the very 1st RHD LWB, is it the very 1st ever 'E' ? Does it look like it actually came with the swb rear lights ?
