Cip1.com have 86mm big bore sets from AA performance for under $400/set. Might be the same as The Q's?
I am going to run them in my 616.
Vic Skirmants in the US has been running AA sets in his street engine's for years, sounds good enough for me, im also on a budget.

A quick update.
My heads have been sent away to be reworked, which will include;
Matching
Flycut
New Intake Valves
New Exhaust Valves
New springs
Seats reworked
After much research I opted to go for a complete new set of pistons and cylinders (from AA in the USA), I will report more on those when they are in my hands.
In the interim I have been cleaning seemingly endless parts getting them degreased and ready to go to the power coaters and electroplaters.

Bettle Yoke;

Template material;

Sealy Engine Stand;

Rebuild Yoke, modify stand, then bring it all together, bit of welding and get this, total cost circa £90;

End Play
Finally got a decent dial gauge indicator stand (dial gauge is new), nice vintage VW one from eBay, bargain as well.
End play measures 0.2mm. This is outside the "new" tolerance, but within the 0.3mm wear limit so for now, after much consideration I am going to leave it at that.

Black Gold
Collected my freshly power coated tinware today, yet to lay it all out on the floor but when I can get shot of the wife and kids I intend to have it out on the kitchen floor, no scrub that it should be on soft carpet so its the living room - photos to follow.
Also collected my electroplated parts, nice van full of stuff today!

HI James
you may want to move your engine support round 90Deg to one side, before the weight of the engine snaps off to top of the crankcase.

Thanks for the note Mike. I am aware that I have the yoke 90 deg out of place, that was an error, not intentional and if I wanted to split the case then the way I have it would not allow me to do so.
However is snapping the case top a real possibility? I am aware of bending moments, tripping axis etc so understand where you are coming from, but I took the view there was plenty of metal in the top of the case.
Has anyone ever snapped a case in this way?
Nevertheless I will probably reconfigure the yoke anyway so if in future I split a case then I can do so.

I will be starting my own restoration thread in about 4 weeks time when I get started on my 2.4s.

I used Hampshire Electroplating, they are in Northam, Southampton (Empress Road I think).
Cost was £92 inc the VAT, I had about 20 parts and 3kg in nuts bolts and washers. I must admit I was worried about some of these very small parts getting lost in the process but as far as i can tell everything is there.
I would advise if you have anything that needs serious cleaning (blasting) that you get it done before hand.
Must admit Im kind of tempted to get a home plating kit at some time in the future, it would be a really handing thing to have.

That all looks very clean. Have the heads been refurbed too? They look like fresh valves...
