Love those CSLs. Having seen a couple of restoration threads they seem to rival an old 911 for their propensity to rust!

It's not every day you see an F1 car in the centre of Milton Keynes... :)

Love the colour very unusual, what did you guys think of the way it drove ? I hate to say this after spending a fortune restoring mine, IMHO did not like the way it drove . Kinda big car feeling compared to a 911.
I haven't driven one for a few years but I think they feel very 'dated' ...

they're a thing of beauty, but they are very dated to drive. I've driven a wide-body ex racer which feels very heavy in the controls compared to the standard csl, but still olde-worldey.
i feel the same way about the e30 m3; everyone raves about how amazing the handling is, but they're very 80's feeling now adays. exciting to drive, but in a oh-s**t kind of way

It shows just how good the early 911's are to drive nothing compares to them. IMHO
bar the GT3, Cayman & Boxster and ilk, the water cooled 911's are too refined and quite, you have to drive them very hard to get a similiar feel, it drove like my 5 Series, just tells you how good BMW's have become, neck & neck.

i think you're right, the air-cooled 911's have a strange balance but once you get used to it they're fantastic things to drive. they don't have the same dated feel some of the other classics do.. perhaps its down to weight? i remember driving my gramps old super 7 and that not feeling dated at the time..

the newer bmw's are more detatched and a bit more "dead" from the drivers seat (e60's, e90's, etc) however the mid 90's to mid 00's bmw's have a great feel to them, possibly down to the steering as the newer m-cars seem unaffected?

will be interesting to see how the electric power steering effects the new 991, especially after reading the article posted recently with all the talk about how much work was done on it and how well it works vs. the older hydraulic system.. from what i understand the new m3 gts and the forthcoming m5 retain hydraulic p.s. despite it being long-gone from the non m-cars on bmw's price list, so switching to an electric system on something with the sporting credentials of a 911 is a bold move!

The late 90's 523I Auto was a fabulous car to drive, it had the balance just right.
I remember driving the first 530D Auto and could not get over that it had the " balance Just right " and the torque, with 911 acceleration ".

Like Porsche and BMW you need to " hit the options list hard " to get a nice driving car.
I love my F10 5 series but its a big car the dynamic suspension is a must and I would also
say automatic, its the best autobox on the market made by ZF 8 speed.
