You’re probably not surprised but incredibly three weeks slip by. Now, they had a second chance and I can’t quite believe that having taking half a year to do nothing they would then renege on their promise to complete the gauges within a week. And yet, here we are 21 days past my reluctant prompt. I’m saddened to be reporting I’ve received no goods, no real prospect that this scenario will turn out well.

Surely they’ll act before a month is up? That would be four times longer than their second promise of when they’ll complete the work.
But, no, I hear nothing. Not a thing. And still I’m not upset. In fact I’m now marveling at just how inept these guys can be. It’s laughable really. British service personified. Would our cousins in the States tolerate this lax attitude? I somehow doubt it.

OK, I had given them a second chance. Eventually I’d had to nag them. And then they told me it would be one week more. And yet now it’s been six weeks. They said (after doing nothing for six months) it would take another 5 working days and yet I’m back waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting….

Eleven months now from initial order. Still no dials. Still no news. I decide I will chase them again after 365 days. Their second chase. I wonder what they will say?

Well it’s fast approaching the one year anniversary. Boy, it’s been a long haul.
And yet I confess I’m thinking this will be good. I can ring them on the anniversary and listen to a great story. How will they explain it away?

And then suddenly, without any warning I get a call demanding my money.
“What is the security code for your credit card?” But no apology or kind words. No sympathy. Still, we’re near the end, eh? So again I don’t protest, I just smile, content in the knowledge that their performance is their legacy. That I can relay what happened to me and let others appraise their reputation.

Finally the goods arrive.
It took 347 days. Yep, three hundred and forty-seven days.

Speedy Cables - a users experience

So, should the next competition be what name Speedy Cables should really be trading under?

The total cost was £474.00 (£395 + VAT). I was quoted £380 at the outset and the final bill reflected that plus £15 they added for carriage and packing.
I’ll admit I thought that was a lot. Maybe I’m naive. Maybe it’s a lack of experience.
I felt that just a clean & re-paint would have done but no, “we just offer a refurbish service Sir. What needs doing is done and sometimes that’s extensive, sometimes it’s modest. The price is fixed.”
When I contested the quote I was told “well they are Porsche gauges”.
Now – being charitable – that could mean ‘German dials are unfamiliar to us, what we really like is Smiths dials from a good old MG/Triumph/Ford etc’
But – from the tone of voice - my perception was “well they are Porsche gauges…… …..so you can afford to pay premium prices”. That may be unfair to Speedy Cables but then again no one took care to explain to me why a Porsche gauge should cost any more than any other.
Did I pay too much? Or is that price about right?

Cost too much.

If they returned the dials within a week or two then the price would be fine, you wouldn't even question it, otherwise in my opinion they've sh*t on you. They charged you top price for an abysmal service, the quality of workmanship is irrespective at this stage. I'm surprised you've remained calm throughout the whole event.
