MSD digital?

Post by Rickard M »

Hi! I guess you use the 6AL when you convert our cars, the normal 6420 or the digital 6425? What´s the difference accept from the price? Both seems to have rev limiter option compared to the 6A.

looks like this for example:

I think the web page gives you wrong info. The 6425 replaces the 6420 according to MSD.

The 6425 does not use separate rev limiter "modules" (or chips or pills or whatever they are sometimes called) as the 6420 did. The rev limit on the 6425 is set by way of turning two dials on the front, under the msd logo. Apart from that i think there's a few minor improvements. Smaller size is probably one of the more obvious ones. Also i found the LED-light to be an absolute life-saver when i set up my system. If i hadn't had the LED to tell me when the MSD was (or wasn't as in this case) getting an ignition signal from the ignition lock, i would've never figured it out

I have the 6425 and i am very happy with it so far.

Thanks for the good reply! I found a 6420 for a nice price so when it was almost the same thing I went for that. I now run a new "original" set of spark plug wires, BERU, will these work with the msd?

Evening Rickard, I switched to Magnacor leads when I installed Msd, they work very well.

See here...

Edit, forgot to say, MSD recommend a helically wound plug lead hence the Magnacors. Berus are a solid core lead and not suited to MSD... apparently.

Thanks, now everything is under control except from which tach adapter, the 8910 (according to pelican mainly used with points distributors) or the 8920 (according to Pelican mainly used with magnetic pickup distributors). I have previously changed my points to a Pertronix Ignitor. Is that "magnetic"? What do you think about that?

Best regards Rickard
