Not much at all, the floats still floated! but just enough in to hear sloshing when rattled next to an ear, a few mls only but if these carbs are sensitive to float height then obviously enough not to shut off the flow!
oh, I get about half a mile with the petcock off before the brain kicks back in!
Sorry guys but I do have time to get involved in the whole saga BUT
1) - YES - the Float Level Valves have been a problem for a number of years
2) - Like many of the Replacement Parts, the qualty varies from source to source but more difficult to handle is when the quality varies from order to order from the same supplier - that really gives us a problem (nothing to do with this thread but Rubber is a real problem in this regard)
3) - We do try and only supply the best of everything that is available but these valves are still a grey area - sometimes good sometimes bad
4) - Roy's comment about smelling your oil regularly is Very, Very sensible - Oil mixed with Petrol does not lubricate properly
5) - The other tell tale sign is to watch for the oil level increasing on your dip stick or the oil level not decreasing (if it used to)
6) - Also getting into the habit of turning off the fuel is a good idea
7) - All the points that Dakota Bill makes, are also very valid
Putting the float in a bowl of hot water would be a good way to check for small leaks in the float. The hot water would expand the air inside and you would then get air bubbles appearing.

Interesting, I assumed the same theory but when I tried that I had no visible leaks at all
Oh and I couldnt end this without a mention for Paul at PRServices - he sent me a new needle valve straight away and was happy to give up his time freely on the phone to talk through things to check and try - excellent as always
