1965 911 GEARBOX INFORMATION

Post by DEEMAN »

Can any of you knowledgeable guys help with info on this gearbox. The numbers on it are 901/1 and 71945/4. These seem to be quite different to anything else I have managed to find for this era. The casting references are also at variance to the parts book having a main casting number of 901.301.301.0R and end casing number of 901.301.101.2R. It is a 5 speed box. The car was completed mid September 1965 and registered in the UK in October.

Any help would be appreciated

I'd like to see a photo of the numbers.
At a guess I would say it is a 1969 magnesium box type 901/13 serial 7194574
PM me with the VIN and paint code of the car please. I'm trying to research the 65 to 66 transition.

I agree about the numbers.

Inspect the castings and post the casting date.
There will be two 2-digit numbers inside a circle.

It would be instructive to see how the early (Nadella or Lobro) transmission axle flanges fit this transmission.

Best,
Grady

Thanks guys, I found the right box for this vehicle!! The numbers correlate to the records. It is a 902/1 box number 222583 and it does have a circle cast on the side showing 19/65.
I had confused it with a 69 box I have!!!!
Many thanks for your swift help in putting me right.
All the Best

Ian

Do you mind me asking where in Scotland you are based?
Aberdeen area perhaps?
There are a few of us in Scotland and I am trying to keep names/contacts together for any possible future events.

Regards
Mike
