Timing Decal

Post by Rosh »

I've sorted my gear knob, and am on the way to sorting my door pocket. Possible with the help from DDKers.

Time to test your patience!.... another annoyance:

Just looking for a correct Timing Decal for a 1972 UK RHD 2.4E Targa, as the current one has seen better days!

Had a look at the below link. If you scroll down to timing decals, I can't seem to see one that matches the 72 UK 2.4E

http://www.sierramadrecollection.com/st ... list&c=115

I'm wondering if any of the ones that are listed are suitable?.... or if there is another source for the decal.

Thanks in advance..... again.

Hi,
There was a guy walking arond at Hedingham who had researched and made his own set of decals for the engine slam panel and fan shroud. They looked very good, all the same colour and the lettering was correct.
He was now ready to sell them. He is not a trader just an enthsiast who could not get the part quality he required. I am sure he is on DDK has he goe sot the Fairmile meetings. I have no idea of cost.

Rosh,
These days with the computer techniques available there is no problem to do the graphics for these decals.
The issue stopping many doing this excercise is finding the correct ,or close, gold foil of the same thickness as the original.
I had one done by a guy in Melbourne for a specific 2.2 S timing decal - the graphics were faultless but the foil was a bronzish colour and was about 2/3 the thickness it should have been.
Be careful with the ones on the internet - some are the US versions and some repros are again this incorrect bronze colour.
Is this for a show car ?
Have you tried your local OPC ?

HTH,
Dennis. :)

The chap at Castle Heddingham was Barry Blain. His decals seem to be very correct, even being Porsche KG, not AG (which would be from mid 73 model year onwards), most repros and genuine Porsche decals are AG. I will get some soon and post pictures here.

Thanks all.

Gulf908 - Its not for a show car. The decal on mine is just unreadable, and I thought I'd try to find a replacement.

Rikard M - It looks like they have what I'm after. http://www.skaraborgsflyg.com/dekal/eng_dekal.html
Maybe not the correct thickness, but should do the job. Thanks.

Pete 917 - Yep, the sierra site is a good site. I've just ordered some bits from them, I'll let you know if there are any problems.

I have spoke at length with Barry during his research on the decals, he has put alot of work into making these correct, even down to some minor details on the timing decal and also the correct shaped numbers eg the number 4.

Thanks

Anyone got Barry Blain's contact details ?

I thought I'd seen his email address somewhere ...
