Anyone going to Classic at the Castle

Hi all,

just a note to see if anyone will be going to the show in their Speedster rep?? l emailed the event organizers and they will not let your Speedster rep into the show, you will be re-directed to the public car park instead. Disapointing l know

, just thought i'd let you now incase your driving there thinking youll be able to park your car in the grounds.

Well. you can sort of see it from Fred's point of view. The main focus of the event is historic Porsches. If I took my 2332cc, five-speed transmission Beetle to the Stanford Hall VW event, I wouldn't expect to be able to park it anywhere other than the public car park as it's an event solely for historic VWs. It doesn't really matter whether you park in one car park or another, as I guess you'd primarily be going there to look at classic Porsches. Relax and have a great day out, looking at the finest examples of our favoured marque in the UK. You'll still be able to park in the grounds – just not in line with the 'real' Porkers.

sorry I can't actually. The Porsche show earlier on in the year welcomed reps. Not the real thing granted but in the spirit of more cars attending and attracting even more interest - esp in current climate, then my comment remains.

I went to Stonor VW show earlier in the year - there was one 356 and lots of reps in amongst some superb dubs. The reps felt as welcome as the real thing.

A rep is a classic - classic vw converted into a classic Porsche (rep)

Just wondor how many 911 Rs's replicas will be at the show??? or 911 impact bumper that been converted to the earlier type pre-impact?? get my point...

Do understand what Fred has said that Porsche heavly fund the show and he dose'nt want to jeopardize this. After all if these shows didn't exist we wouldn't be talking about this here.

Not all porsche owners are snobs but snoobery does exist amongst the clubs and owners

. TIPEClub welcome all porsches for instance, Porsche GB have had 356 replica's at some shows to, so whats the differance with this one??

After all how many real 356 do you see on the roads?? not many, how many replica's do you see on the roads, quite a few and people love to see them, its nice to see this little car in the flesh rather than just in the mags. Do they care if its a replica no they just love the shape etc like we all do. To me this is keeping the car's enthusium alive and not forgotten. So lets put this aside and go to the show because we all love these little cars regardless were we have to park

If we didn't desire these cars and build replicas then the parts demand would'nt be the market it is, after all, more repo's get built than whats left of the real Mckoy's and the parts would'nt cost so much so the Mckoys would be so expensive, so l think those that have the Mckoy's do owe us replica builders a drink.... Dont take this to heart just me having a say....

As an ex Speedster rep owner I'd agree with the organisers

No snobbery involved, far from it.

The parking at The Castle show is carefully planned in years and models and if replicas were to be part of this then they'd need their own section as it would be strange to park them within Porsche model/year parking.

Organisers need to draw the line somewhere and I can understand a show with official Porsche support with replicas involved wouldn't sit well. You can't compare 911s in the style of RS' ST's or backdates as they are Porsches presented in a different style not a different car presented as a Porsche

Only my opinion and I'm a great lover of Speedster reps.

That's the point, I guess. The easiest place to draw the line is at Porsches, anything else and it can get messy and upsetting - a Covin owner would rightly be annoyed if a Chesil was allowed in and he wasn't, for example.

Don't take it personally - it's simply a practical necessity for the organisers!

Didn't the organisers let in a silver 356 replica one year (it was featured in 911&PW I believe).

Pointless discussion. I've never seen the point at all in trying to stir up trouble/discussion/debate whatever you want to call it over not being 'allowed' into a show. I write for Auto Italia magazine. I drive an Alfa GTV as a daily hack. If I took that to a VW show, i wouldn't expect to park it up anywhere other than the general car park. If I drove my Beetle to an Alfa show, likewise. If I drove my Beetle to a Porsche show, likewise… etc etc.

It's like saying that there's nothing but rubbish on the TV – easy answer, use the 'off' button. If you don't like what a show organiser is trying to do, then don't go. It really is that easy. But to miss out on being able to see the best classic Porsches in one place, in the UK too, then I think any true enthusiast would be foolish not to go.

What might have happened in the past as a result of someone on the gate, or whatever, making a decision which, in retrospect, may have been 'wrong', then I guess the words 'only human' come to mind. I tried to send Mike Searle's turquoise Speedster to the replica parking at an Air-Cooled Day at Brooklands once...

i've owned a Apal speedster but i wouldn't have taken it along to Castle Hedingham show and expected to have parked it with the genuine speedsters.

however i don't really see a problem with there being a area at the show for 356 replicas. maybe martin and walker or such like could have a stand there.

I've had a discussion today and it seems that an area of the grounds is being set aside for post-73 Porsches, this will be separate to 'general parking' for other cars.

I expect replicas will be happily received there, it's all quite friendly.

I'm sure that'll go in with the pre-74s, it's the discretion of the chap on the gate and your ability to chat him up that'll decide it.

Hi Guy's,

I'm loving this, but there's no conclusion! Did anyone go, were you rep boy turned away like dirty lepers, did you get to park the RSR with the other Porsches, and most important (as we should all want to see and admire each others car what ever they started life as) was it a good show shall I put it in my diary for next year?
