Hagerty 'Drive It Day' photos 25 April 2010

Post by left4dead »

A nice day out today, 250 miles of motorways (in rain  ), 70 miles of cross country roads (sunshine 8) ) following a pretty route - pre-arranged by those Hagerty guys & gals - taking in many sights with a half-way break at Sywell Aerodrome. A more eclectic mix you could not have wished for...

A small selection of photos mostly taken at weird angles due to camera in right hand with coffee/beer/soup in the other (depending upon time of day) :)

Looks like a nice gathering Steve, shame the rear end of that vette is getting in the way of a proper view of your E type! Seems to be quite a few Jags there tho, a good day out :)

I only saw three early Porsches; Helen's, an RS rep and a Speedy rep. Oh, and a couple of IB cars that I didn't snap. Funny that so many here seem to insure with Hagerty with so few turn out on the day? Didn't fancy it? Not invited?

Steve, have you got any shots of that white 356? You know, the one with blue lights.

EDIT: OK, beat me to it.

I know very little about 'Vettes but this stood out as quite special (I voted it my 'car of the day' - there was a competition  ). Unfortunately, the car didn't make it back to the start point and the driver returned in a modern (not wearing the spiffing helmet/goggles combo...)

The 'Vette was built by Scott Groves and the team at Corvette Kingdom in Norfolk....they looked after my '69 Roadster for the 5 years I owned the old girl. Plenty of photos of the 'Vette Racer on his website, and I agree - cool car.

I remember seeing this AC at a FoS auction ten year ago (I'm pretty sure it was this car) where it sold for circa 40k. I believe it sold recently for a similar figure (plus 100,000). I love AC's dearly but would never consider paying RST money for one (although would kill for a roadster this summer, any roadster). EDIT: This might well be Simon Taylor's AC in which case it wouldn't have been the one that sold at auction recently as his is in long-term ownership.

Sywell Aerodrome. Worth a visit if you're in the area but, if you want lunch, don't time it with the arrival of a coach party  :
