Now then Nige, are we getting confused between exhausts and heat exchangers? you will have to pay more attention at the masterclassesNige wrote:Looks great, let us know how the zinc coating lasts on the exhaust though.
The heat exchangers have been yellow passivated.

Sorry, I misunderstood, yes as John says they're yellow passivated; will let you know how it goes. I'm expecting that they will dull considerably and to be honest, it propbably needs a new set, this is merely putting off the inevitable and taking out the rust that was on there....just didn't have a spare £700 for new ones.
I'm planning to run these over the summer this year and then invest in some new ones next year.

She lives!! that's sounding exciting! Mike tells me that we need a few more pipes so that we can get the choke to knock off, and that the timing needs a bit of attention, but wow...even over my crappy desk speakers at work that sounds completely different.

We went to Bob Watsons today.
Engine's been broken in. Bob's place difficult to find...
So, the moment of truth....how many HPs are there? Mike's definitely built a great engine, it feels completely different. Refined at low revs. Torquey through the mid range. Flat six like I've never heard above 6000. And I had a 6800 rev limiter to break it in (actually another of those randoms for my car, no idea why it had one one) to be replaced at Bob's with a 7300 limiter.
Bob checked points, timing & mixture on all cylinders - weaving his dark arts. I listened, I watched, I'm wiser (but not much more so). It looks easy. And thats when you know they're good...!
Linked up.

Strapped in.

And then we went for a power run.
People warned me about how this feels. I'm thinking yeah, whatever. And then it went on the cam. And I flinched. Good adrenaline rush.

And the result was......
199 BHP & 204 Nm torque.
Nice job Mike.

Hi, thanks - yes its a great result - I was hoping it would be north of 160, so this was definitely beyond expectations!
In terms of mods, the only performance mods have been to lighten the flywheel and balance the crank - we did a bunch of longevity mods such as the oil-bypass mod, the crank oil mod & time-certed the centre case-stud for the intergear.
The rest was all refirbishment of stuff - new Ps & Cs, valves, guides & springs, new injectors and fully refirbed throttle bodies & pump. Bob W reckons the factory was conservative with its 180 estimate and that he's not surprised that a 2.2s in good condition can beat those figures. Still its great to know that it's in good nick.
Big thanks to all those who have been involved in the project, its turned out really well.
Best,
Richard
