Barn find 911 and 914

Post by myatt1972 »

Hi all,
Recently purchased a 73 911e sporto and a 73 914 2.0l, neither of the cars have been on the road for well over 20 years but have been dry (ish) stored. The 911 has 20k on the clock but seems to have problems with the sporto box, the 914 has 17k on the clock and is now up and running after new fuel, plugs and points and just needs work on the brakes for mot.
Im getting work done a bit at a time and may need to pick some brains, especially if youre a sporto expert.

some pics, http://s853.photobucket.com/albums/ab97 ... 0up%20day/

Many thanks,
Keith...

Nice! they both look in pretty good condition, especially the 911 being a RHD car! Do you know anything about the history?

Welcome to DDK Keith.

Those are a couple of nice finds. It just shows there are still cars out there which we have yet to discover. That E is exactly the same as my first 911 apart from the sporto box. Does it have a tan interior, recaro sport seats? I think Mike Bainbridge may be the guy to speak to on the problems with the box. It looks like a very original car from those few photos with all its correct external bits and pieces. More photos would be nice esp interior and engine and boot shots. Let us know what you intend to do with it. Is it solid underneath? It will be nice to see it brought back to former glory. Good luck and enjoy the process.

I'm not a 914 man so will leave it to others to comment on that. Did you find them both at the same place?

Regards
Mike

Hi Timo,
Both cars are one owner from new, a mate of mine does house clearance and put me on to the cars. The owner had passed away and these were part of the estate, there was also a 1958 Roller an eary 50's beetle and a 1990 mx5. It was a real aladins cave.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the welcome, yes both cars from same place, I got my work cut out but having fun. Not made of money so will be doing all but the bodywork myself (was a mechanic for 7 years).

Keith

From those photos that looks like a very special find. Looks as dry as a bone underneath and the bonus of original recaros as well. I hope you do a sympathetic refurb. Originality is only there once.
Wish I'd ave found that. There can't be many more untouched 911's like that around.

Look after it!!

All the best. Keep us up to date with progress.

Regards
Mike

Wow you lucky lad, great find and they both look to be in good shape. What’s the lock in the wing for?

Good luck with re-commissioning and keep us all up to date.

Early 70's alarm system? Seem to recall that my Dad had a similar 'lock' on his BMC 1100 around that time...

Hi,

What a fantastic car, I really enjoyed looking at the pics. They do not turn up like this often. Great find.

We had PGF 528L in for resto last year.

Good luck

Thanks for the comments guys, Im over the moon with both cars, both will be staying as original as possible.
Im currently battling with the sporto box and its 1 - 0 to the sporto at the moment.
