'73 Italian Spec turn signal lenses

Post by jimmysav »

Anybody got any idea where I can get a pair of original Hella Italian spec lenses from ? Ones that are on the car currently have a number of cracks on them and would like to replace them

Pelican do do some repros but would like to get the original if possible.

Thanks,

Ben

Ben

It took me ages to find 'originals' which came from a friend in Italy and he confirmed they were from a 1973 car. The best bet is to trawl Italian ebay and keep looking. They come up sometimes. There are also repros on Italian ebay so beware. You could wait a long time and they are not cheap. If I see any more I will let you know. Someone on here may have some if they have changed to UK spec. I remember alfacat on here did just that and he said Tuthills (who did the swop) kept the Italian ones so it might be worth giving them a call. Good luck.

regards
Mike

Thanks Mike. Done a number of trawls over WW ebay with only the repro ones turning up. I will give Tuthills a call though so thank you for that lead.

Might just buy some repro ones for the interim and keep my eyes open. If you do hear of any please do let me know.

Thanks again.

Hi All
Yes Tuthills replaced my front wings (Nov 72, so 73 model year and the car was/is an Italian "T"), but its over 18 months ago so they may be long gone, I dealt with Paul (nice chap) so do give him a call.
From memory the lenses where in pretty good nick.
Best of luck

I know two chappies in RIP 911 (Italian Porsche Club), and one has a car that is three chassis numbers older than mine. Will send him a note as I have to contact him anyway.

One of my Italian Porsche friends said that replacement lenses are only available as an aftermarket item, and not original made by Bosch. Can find out the price if you like.

Got another note from the friend in Italy. He says the new lenses are more European meaning more orange, and less transparent.

Got another note, and he asked:
- is the boarder black or chrome? We think it is black

- He thinks via ebay they should cost a max of euro 100 per set.

Do you want to confirm?

Thanks
Dom

Domtoni,

Borders are black no question. Had a trawl through ebay but to no avail. If your Italian contact thinks he can get hold of some then please let me know and we can arrange the necessary.

Thanks.

Ben,
it's really difficult to find decent and original italian-spec lenses nowadays. I have a pair, but am keeping as a spare for my car.
Here is a photo I took in a shop, it's a 2.4S with the repro lenses.

You can get those, use the car with them and keep the originals away. I think the price is in the EUR100 area for the couple.
