B__ls out RS rally drive

Post by amallagh »

Just had to post this after seeing it.
Some of you will no doubt have seen it before but watching this drive by French rally driver Gilles Nantet, makes my heart stop. So on the edge and so_so early on the throttle !!!
Turn the volume up and enjoy. Make sure you watch it until the very end.
Driving this close to the edge in those sort of condition was always going to end one of 2 ways. In greatness OR a in a great big smash !

There is a theme here regarding Porsche's, wet narrow roads and rallying.....

was this shot in Ireland. Sure I could hear the wail of the banshee - to be sure to be sure.

Surely this can't be filmed at normal speed ? It must be speeded up ?
A wet muddy lane and it looks like he is traveling at warp speed.

After a long hard day in the garage that is a perfect end. What a great piece of footage!
What a great engine! My 3.2 doesn't run like that...

Is that an RSR on mech injection or what.

The crunch at the end made my 23 year old daughter yelp!

Fantastic.

I look at this, and I look at Roser in the Yellowbird, and I just understand know how you keep that up for that amount of time. It's amazing.

That's not speeded up that's Billy Coleman 8)

And if you don't believe me watch it again and listen to the undistorted pace notes.

I stole this clip yesterday and posted it on the 'thinking Impreza person web site, '22B' where they are sensible and somewhat bias..
(I used to have a hot Impreza for hillclimbing)

Knocked them dead, and they are suitably impressed.

It is a great run, and hillclimbing a simple 911 it just shows how fast they are in the right hands.

I just need a hands transplant! :drunken:

The Irish boys were into their Porsches in the mid 70's, here are some never before published pictures from the 1976 Circuit of Ireland. I think the Brian Nelson car was a pukka RSR, the Statos is driven bythe above mentioned Billy Coleman - always spectacular .

As you can see from the the pictures you could get close to the action back in those days, and for free as well, were you there JW ?

Hello Matt: DDK is as good as you told me!
There is a very similar site '22B' for Imprezas which runs in the same simple straight forward manner.

This year i will start in the trusty 911 but i hope the Lola Porsche will be finished by late June!

It is a 1978 Sprots 2000 Lola T 490 now with a stout 3.2 engine and trans on webers...

500 bhp/ tonne.

You are welcome to pop round and take a look.

Graham.

Up to 74. There were places you could stand on one cross-roads and watch 4 seperate stages through the night. Most of the Works teams used to stay at the Dunadry Inn, about a mile from my home, so we got to see all the Minis and Escorts through the sixties.

I must dig out my old slides and buy a scanner!

Cheers! :drunken:
