My granddad had porsche and mercedes S classes, my mum drove mercs as well (they were german). My dad, being Belgian, wanted to be a counterweight and was an anglophile: Jaguar, MG, Austin Healey and all the rest of it.
He lost his life in a Jag XJ6 4.2.
My first "real" car was a 63 MGB tourer, chassis 773. I destroyed it by dissassembling it I dabbled unsuccessfully with all kinds of romantic english rusticalia until I discovered/got my mitts on the keys of the old targa of granddad and the rest is history. By the way: I hate restorations. I just hate them and the MGB trauma never left me.
Back home, there is still in my parents house a Morgan plus 4, a MGA 1600 MkII and a kind of dog eared TR6 on carbs from my fathers time. They are still insured and techically kind of okay but only the MGA was used over summer for some trips. I should really pull my finger out but I've got enough on as it is and kind of evade them like the plague.
it's a brave man who takes on running two classics unless you've enough cash to pay someone else to look after them. i have trouble finding time for one! that said as an alternative to the Porsche, i will have either a Lancia or Alfa one day. The Lancia Flavia HF is a car I've had my eye on for years. Understated, rare and a nightmare to get parts for (I've heard). Gotta love a challenge though
I cant afford (or persuade the management) a second classic car, so I look after other peoples!
A Fiesta mk1, running in Classic Touring Cars Group 1, 1300cc, 115bhp at the flywheel, won the class last year, took a few lap records.
Ferrari 308GT4, running in the Ferrari Classic Championship last year, only did a few rounds but had a whale of a time.
Ferrari 330, due to come out in this years FCC, fantastic car , famous (for other reasons) driver.
Ford RS 200's yes, plural, for Jim Avis (sometime user of this forum). If you want the brown stuff scared out of you, on slicks these things do 0-60 in 2.4 seconds and 0-120 in 5.(flat out at 135mph on that gearing) but amazing. Bit of a homecoming for me with these, I worked on one of Jims cars when it was a works car for Stig Blomquist.
Then I have my Guzzi, 200,000 miles and still going, went out for a blast this afternoon, great fun after all the cold and salt.

I have a DARE Ginetta G4, and have previously had a succession of 60's Lotus Elan S3's (the baby Elan version), ranging from standard cars to a 165bhp hillclimb car. In the late nineties I restored an MGA FHC too, a really nice car with a modified B engine. A brief dalliance with a wonderful BRA Cobra 289 replica, and then back to Porsche with a 1970 2.2 T Sporto. Latest 911 is a nice SC which I'm backdating to 1973 RS spec.
Like some others on this forum I've always had a hankering for a 105 series Alfa, and have tried to buy several, but have never found a sound enough one at the right price yet !
The Porsche is going to stay with me this time though.

When you say 'classic' and 'mess around with' in the same sentence..... well quite frankly I don't think I can mess around with my other classic much more than I already have.
My other classic is my trusty Beetle which I've had since I was seventeen (that's 19years ) in that time I've done the following:
Roof Chop
De-pillared
Lowered suspension
Custom/trick rollcage
and to make all that go.... well you can't have any little put-put . How's about a 2.4litre Type 4 motor, with a supercharger off a Merc, Cosworth injection system, chargecooler, Jag throttle body +200bhp
Does the 1/4 mile in 11.6 and a 0-60 of less than 4seconds, doesn't like corners though

Thank you. It looks particularly good behind my other 1956 18' Continental convertible. Do any of you know anything about this car? It's one of two convertibles made by Hess & Eisenhardt, of John F. Kennedy limousine fame. They also made Jaguar convertible conversions in the '80s. The other is reported to have been shipped to Europe. Anyone know its whereabouts?
