Hi all,

Martin popped over today in his 67 S, so I managed to snap a few more pics. I still have a few things to finish off, but still managed to go out for a quick spin.

 Yup, I had a ride and I, too, grabbed the dash as it hit 4k for the first time too. That car is mental, it was amazingly quick even with 3½ people on board.

It certainly looks amazing

Forgive my ignorance on this Alan, but I now know it's a short-stroke engine but that's about it. Presumably this offers a higher-revving engine?

On the basis that you can call it a 3.2 S/S and everyone else knows what that means except for me, can you point me to somewhere where I can learn more about this configuration - it sounds amazing.

Also on the PMO's - are these the sort of thing that could be used every day or are they likely to lose tune (as opposed to injection)

Cheers - love to have a look at it - will you be at Husborne this year?

D'oh!

Should've looked first - found details on Pelican:-

"To upgrade a stock 3.0 Engine to a 3.2, you need a special "Big Bore" kit.
This kit turns your 3.0 into what is known as a short-stroke 3.2. "

Hi Mark,

I will post more info soon, but yes a SS 3.2 is built around a 3.0 Ltr SC motor, which are known for being a very sturdy motor. I did have a 964 3.6 motor originally but decided to sell that and used a motor which was more in keeping with my car. I chose an early SC motor, which was chosen as the early ones have better/larger heads.

To get a 3.0 ltr to 3.2 you need to fit 98mm pistons, the originals are 95mm. You will also need to change the cylinders as on a 3.0 ltr there is a sealing ring and thus not enough material to bore them out and still get a good seal between cylinder and head. Most people used 95mm cylinders from a 3.2 carrera as these do not have a sealing ring. I went down the new piston and new cylinder route. There are other things to consider but it is a great motor.

The drivability is great and if needed could be driven daily, easily. The carbs are also brand new and I don't expect them to need much more attention than any MFI would.

Here are my Pistons/Cylinders, as you can see they have large valve cut outs, these are needed as the Compression Ratio is quite high at 10.3:1 and it also runs high lift cams.

If anyone has the funds I would love to put another motor like this together  but next time I would like to go 100mm pistons or maybe larger  and twin spark

Thanks

Hi Alan,

Saw your car a couple of times at Carrera Performance whilst I had my gearbox rebuilt.. very very nice 8) 8)

Out of interest, what tyres are you running (size and make) - the fronts looked just the right profile for a lowered car on 6in rims but I didnt get a chance to check them out.

Cheers, Gav

Any chance of an update on this Alan? - I understand the engine's been away for some more work - have you got it back and if so how's it going?
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah

Hi,

Thanks for re-sparking this thread. It's been a while since anything has happened to this car and it has still only done 2500 miles since being restored :( .

After 1500 miles the cams were changed and also the motor was twin plugged. The car is up with Mike B's, originally to have the LSD changed to a Porsche ZF type. But there were a few probs with the motor, which meant it had to be stripped down back to the crank. The problem was found and rectified and the long block rebuilt. The motor is now back with Mike but Mike decided to strip it again and start again from scratch.

Now, I am changing the cams which were Andial S, then we tried DC60s to GE80s, the heads are also being ported plus after checking the CR and not relying on manufactures spec is being correctly set to 10.5:1.

Anyway the short answer is yes it should be finished soon and after a run in it will go up to Bob and say hi to the rollers once again

Thanks

Alan
