Insurance ................... again

GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

spent the day phoning around the insurence companies trying to find someone who will insure my 911S without me having to fit a alarm/imobiliser.

A Manning (my usual insurer) insist on an alarm

Youngs (who insure my speedster) insist on an alarm

Adrian Flux never answer their phone. or e-mails

AON took all day & a extra call to return my call only to tell me that they would call me tomorow... BUT they did seem to think they could help, so fingers crossed.

i did phone another "specilist" classic car insurer who advertises in Porsche post. BUT i gave up. the girl who answered the phone sounded about 16 and this is how the conversation went before i gave up...

"what car is it"? = a 1968 911S

"what make of car is it"?= a porsche

" what engine size"? = 2ltr

" is that a diesel"? = eeer NO

i wouldn't mind BUT in their advert they claim to be classic Porsche specilists.

Just moved all mine to ClassicLine ( 01455 639000 ) on a multicar classic policy .
Immobilisers fitted but no alarms declared .
Might be worth a call

Hi Helen - I've just renewed for second year with Carole Nash (not sure if you have tried them already?)

They were good for me last year, and in fact this year the renewal went down £60 for same cover with same insurer! I worked in motor insurance for 8 years so really do check the policies carefully and it's all good. They placed the risk with Chaucer.

try Hagerty.
I insured my 911s Targa with them. Really easy. They insured the car on the chassis number until I sorted out number plates.
The only stipulation was that the car had to be kept in a garage at night time if you were at your home adress.

I've called them a few times since taking out the policy and they have always been corteous and very accomodating.

I use Richardson Hoskins www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk. They've always been extremely helpful and pretty competitive.

I am just going through the same process for my T and found Hagerty to be a full £100 cheaper than the other 5 that I called including European cover.

Never been a requirement whilst I've been insured with Lancaster, but then they've not been the cheapest either. Also remember the value of the car!

Can't beleive it.. just phoned Hagerty, spoke to Darren who knows his cars and sorted out a policy for me in under 10 mins.
garaged, 5k miles per year,No alarm/immobiliser needed. and its £100 cheaper than the nearest other quotes (with alarms) i've had.

i will definatly be moving my other cars over to them when their policys are due.

I also called a so called expert as you say Helen and I got told I had to have a Cat 1 alarm fitted to my Pre A

I laughed and said I thought you were porsche experts.. We are..

so you know then the Pre A is a 6V car.. .... No..

Well it is and what alarm will come with the option of 6V?

We can advise Sextons and Halfords

One I wouldn't go to either as they only do new cars andyou are talking Bl*&*&s as there is no car alarm on the market for the car that is 6V and is also cat 1!!

Insurance compaines.. and ref the comment on A/Flux well there you go nothings changed then... just as crap as they have aways been.

Have sent photos and details for agreed value twice now and still they are `showing no record of your car sir`

Last week they sent all my details back to me with a cover note requesting the very details they were returning

My renewal is up next week, very useful thread,thanks

Hagerty seem to be on a roll....very good prices and easy to get to talk to somebody who knows about these cars.
