Here's a couple of photos from my file - I think these are the best I have of that area....
Paul,

Very nice photos. These are going straight to my computer for future reference photos. Do you know what day in October your RS was completed? Thanks much.

Mike,

You are so correct. After I saw Paul's photos I noticed the same thing you point out that the tunnel is indeed reinforced on the eBay RS. Thanks for responding. :)
Brian,

Thank you very much for your efforts and the photo's, you have certainly changed my perspective on these cars and made me consider them on a very different level. Also, I think I forgot to say how much I enjoyed seeing the photo's of your car at different points in its life. Its so easy to forget, when looking at a freshly-polished example that these cars have been around for close on thirty-eight years!

Cheers,

Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa and Lancia all featuring at one time or another and in one form or another in the garage. I once bought a lovely car from William and it turned out to be the best piece of “accidental investing” I think I’ve ever done. I had heard of his RHD Spyder also. I agree they are truly works of art, but I suspect you’d need close to a million quid to prize one out of a collectors hands – LHD cars in the US are $1.5mm all day and there’s a lot more of those about (like 20 times more). Most importantly as you say, the usability of the RS is light years better.
Again I think we can draw parallels to the RS pricing question – there were close to 1,400 Daytonas made in GTB and GTS form and the Berlinettas (as we hear on this thread) are 150K++, over 200k in some cases. But they were making frightening money in the late 80’s. As one of the guys so appositely says, great fun at 100mph in a straight line but corners like the Queen Mary. The real fun starts when your 4.4 litre V12 start smoking and you are staring a 40 grand bill in the face (Ferrari servicing, no better exponents on earth of the “while I’m in there I might as well look at the the…..” philosophy of motor vehicle maintenance.
You're not alone in loving the latins G. I will always owe Loughrans a debt of thanks for allowing me to hang around their showroom (William's drive!) lots of years ago and look at their lovely cars, a student in penury as I was. I felt I was a nominal part of it all with my Alfasud Ti (No rust, honest!)
I know of a guy(not personally must add), I think he lives in Gstaad(?) who jets over to Stansted in his exec jet, then hops into his B206 to a location in Essex, then gets his RS out of storage and blats about for a week or so, then it gets puts back in the garage till next time. More eloquent comment on the virtues of the RS I couldn't imagine. Point being, we could imagine he could cherry-pick from any classic, but chooses the RS. 8)
I have been told many horror stories of Ferrari 'overhaul' costs, and that is another of the reasons that I am on DDK, and indeed you have your RS G.

Blimey go away for two days and this thread has four new pages already!

The comment was made to highligh the fact that the T,E and S are basically the same body shell, arches, glass, wheels, trimming options etc.

The RS has lots of differences that Porsche wanted on thier race car and therefore put them on the RS only for homologation purposes (for example the rear tunnel strengthening and the ali cross member discussed in the last few pages, thinner body panels, thinner glass, revised banana arms for the later RSs, 2.7 mag case, etc).

This is a great informative thread BTW :thumbright:

Ian.
Thanks for the comments Ian, and the great additions. Your post and many others are the reason that this thread is so informative. Last time I learned so much in so short a time was in 1977 for November re-sits <ahem>

Keep them coming!

I just checked and the car was released from the factory on November 1st, 1972.
Interestingly enough, it wasn't registered till 7th May 1973... I thought most of the first 500 were all signed up for at the show in '72? I would have thought unless this particular one went straight to racing, it would have been registered way before May the following year....??

Hi Tim,

Yes that's the one; I was actually pointed here twice by Geneve, but I too thought it was a German site and first time round ignored it. But when James (Hot66) invited me I came over.

Am I missing a point in your question?

Edited to add: I think I understand your point now. The point that I para'd above came by PM, after one of the other quotes. I got a lot of stuff by PM on that thread, my first PH rs thread, and on this one. I wasn't sure whether to put this in, but did anyway because I thought it was important. :?

In the spirit of fairness, and my growing admiration for the previously maligned 'reps', here are a few pics of DDk'er TimB's lovely White with green one. At a suitable venue too!

And another,

Thanks to Tim for the permission to post them here,

Any idea how difficult the original Cibie's are to get hold of these days? I'm doing some (very light) rallying in mine this Summer, they might finish the car off nicely? Thought I'd attach a few pictures of last Summer, mine is a Touring in lightweight spec, I still have the original bumpers/side trim. Its by no means perfect (like its owner), I'm sure the experts could pull me up on a few details!

That is a lovely looking car ElkElk!
I have to say those Cibies make Rs's look just right, but only two of them! That Oz car with the Cibies that had the cheeky yellow covers was just amazing!

I know your car isn't quite Tangerine, but it does have an honourable shade of Orange. I noticed a thread on the Cibies oon here, I believe they are called 'Pallas' after the Citroen model they came from (?), but I can't remember where I saw it!
Perhaps James will tell you?

I'm getting quite(?) savvy on these prices, and am preparing/talking properly cheeky offers all over the place.

ELkELK;

On the picture of your engine, I notice that there is a long pipe running right to left above the fan from the air intake?

In a lot of RS pictures this isn't there, or it is missing. Can you tell me if this was a mod on yours, if not, why would others remove theirs? :?

I'm going to have to leave that one to an expert, as far as I am aware the engine is standard (except for SSIs). I'm sure someone here will inform us both..

As for the Pallas Cibies, can anyone tell me where they should be mounted on an RS?

Steve, my car is signal yellow, but does look quite orange in photos. Good luck in your search and do not rush in, at these prices (and frankly I have no idea where reality is these days!) you are bound to get some nice examples coming to market on a regular basis.

The cold start warm air flapper box mixer thing as I call it seems to be one thing that has dissapeared from a lot of engines over the years. It was original fitment on the E and S engines so probably RS as well.

Steve,

I am encourged to read you grasp the utmost importance of having the proper elastic cord in place to secure the door pocket for the those high speed corners at the track or the public roads.
