P.S. I think you are right , it was also in GT Porsche magazine.

....so fill it in , paint it and do a paint thickness profile of the dent so that if anyone else wants the car with the dent they can RESTORE the dent

If i remember the article correctly the roof dent was bad enough to make it nigh on impossible to sit in the car. The owners were planning on leaving as many panels as possible unrestored though, I think there's a pretty significant dent in one of the doors which is staying, and the front end was a bit of a state, partly due to rallying, partly due to the cars unusual storage conditions.

Thanks for your contribs; do you know anything else about this car, I'd really like to know about its progress? Personally I'm not sure about this 'keep the dents' thing. I get the stuff about the original panels, and I guess if it would damage the panel further then keep the dent....but other than that, why not fix them? I don't get it.

I thought it might be a bit too good to be true! Well done for 'fessing up! I bet there is somebody on here with a garage like that? It won't be me though, the accumulated 'stuff' that I have plus the kids stuff put paid to that!

A very nice photo though, and now immortalised on DDK! I like the way that you got a Ferrari in there, bet it's like looking guiltily at photo's of an old girlfriend.....not that I have anything like that, or would ever do anything like that.....

My guilt is now more for the fact that the Ferrari photo has now appeared four times rather than people believed that to be my garage

OK back to the Rs's's's,

I have a strong lead on one car that looks favourite, but haven't been able to see it yet. I'm working hard at changing that right now. The owner doesn't wish it to be public, so fair enough. I have pics but can't publish, yet. I've been told that it would be hard to better this one.

I am following leads on two cars on mainland Europe; pics will be posted if they are what they claim to be. I don't think that I will be buying any of the 'usual suspect' cars that are available at the moment, but have been told by two of the main dealers that they have 'special' cars coming through any time now. All of these are Tourings. More to follow, both have assured me that they will e-me details before going public. I fact I have just heard of a white one that is great, but don't want white (sorry to all you fab white RS owners).

Now; a guilty admission (don't know if Sladey's listening, he may chuckle at this...) I have been looking covetously at the Blutorange replica at Maxted-Page........

It's the biker in me, at some point I'd want to nail the b*st*rd proper, as we say in the vernacular, and I'm not sure how I'd feel doing that in an original........hmmmm? I'd get both...

But that may be an RS too far...?

As to the market prices, well they seem to marcheth on with no sign of a droop. The <ahem> 'average' Touring that was £138k, then more recently £155k, is now going to be getting £165-175k.

So the top cars will have moved on commensurately.....

BTW Tim; if you'll pardon the OT, you're pics are superb mate!

You're right, the better cars are still selling very quickly. Last time I was up at Maxted-Page, Lee showed me round the Orange RS rep, and I'd highly recommend a closer look, its stunning.

It's exactly the point I was making earlier. Be careful - you might get what you wish for - Sometimes the worst that can happen is that you get what you want.....

Anyway enough theorizing. If you bought it and changed your mind you'd probably get your money back - I mean it's not like we're heading for recession or anything is it?

I'm not in the same position by a long chalk - very happy with what i've got and it's a real Forth Road Bridge job for me - the fun is planning the next mod then implementing it and so on. Doing the 'Ring last year was about the most fun I've had. Ever.

If I did have the money to afford one I think:-
1. I wouldn't want one that relies on perfect showroom condition for it's value - like buying that car that's only ever done 10K miles - you can never use it. I'd have to be able to use it without any thought to having to 'save it for best'
2. I'd have to be wealthy enough to budget for the ongoing repair/restoration costs - even though the cars themselves have gone stratospheric, the repair costs generally haven't. Paint can be resprayed, mechanicals rebuilt and so on.

It's not my money though

Keep posting the updates and let us know how you're getting on. You haven't got that long until Classic LeMans so you'd better get a move on!
