Derek - overall length of the 915 shift rod is 867 mm.

The 901/911 shift rod is 15mm longer.

Mind you, having been the victim of myself many times, I always find it's the thought of re-doing the work much worse than actually cracking on and sorting it.

Nevertheless I propose a new annual DDK award, the 'I Don't Know why I Do this, There Must Be Easier Interests' cup, to be given to the sufferer of the worst hassle-to-smile ratio

I had a plan! and just for once I think it has delivered

The link that sits between the two selectors and is reacted by the fork fixed to the plate on the bottom of the box had rotated out of position.

Now I just need to put all the bits back on again that I took off last night in preparation for dropping the engine and fingers crossed it may work this time

(I'm not counting any chickens just yet though...)

Chickens have been counted and 5 of them go forwards and one back

So save for 1/2 litre of Swepco in my hair (eeeww you smell) it wasn't that bad!

I've got to somehow get the rest of the gearbox oil in tonight, (I may buy a syringe!) connect one driveshaft and it's done

I started it up last night (sorry neighbours...) and it fired first time and ran lovely, so at least I seem to have got the cam timing somewhere close.

Don't know if you still need these measurements Derek, but these may help:

Distance from end cover seal to end of shift rod (into car):

Neutral: 91mm
1st/3rd 84mm
2nd/4th 106mm

End of shift rod to inner face of body hole in neutral: 32mm

All back together

The easy fix was the fix

That's never happened before!

Apart from the reversing lights stuck on, which I'm off to sort in a bit, all is good.

Strangely the idle speed has gone up about 400rpm without touching anything on the carbs or dizzy whilst it was out

I can only surmise that correcting the cam timing has altered the way it runs a little? Anyway a tweek or two will put that right.
