Is this the right radio for my 912?
This is the radio that came with my 1967 912 when I bought it. It still works (well, it lights up anyway when I attach it to a power source), and although I'm not bothered about hearing anything out of it, I'd like to know if it is correct for my car, or is it a later version?
The car was first sold in California in case that makes any difference. Should the basket weave trim be there, or should it just be straight onto the silver dash trim? There are a couple of odd holes in the trim behind the basket weave and so if I wanted to put a different radio in, or get rid of the basket weave, I'd have to replace the silver fascia - are these available, and if so, do they just stick on?
And yes, the knee pad along the bottom of the dash has now been replaced with a nicely covered one - looks a lot better!
Thanks in advance.

Martin - the basketweave should not be on there - the dash face should be the same all the way across the dash.
I'm not a radio expert but that looks like a later (~ '70 ?) Blaupunkt Frankfurt model...

does look a bit new to me too .
I have a Becker Europa in my '12.
When's the engine going in?
re the dash trim behind the radio, I sourced it from Peter Andrew's in Transend (the original one had been butchered!)

Ian - the engine isn't assembled yet. I can't wait though - least of all, it's starting to cause me problems with alternative transportation now.
I don't really have the funds for an earlier radio, so I might replace the silver trim so that it's not butchered, but still use this radio. I've cleaned it up and it seems to power up with a nice glow. I guess I can always replace the radio at a later date when I can afford/justify the outlay!

James - a fellow DDKer has already asked for it, but when I do get around to fitting some new trim, then I'll let you know and whoever gets there first can have it!
Cheers

Written on my radio is the name Brent Braun. So, could this have been a previous owner of my car in the US? If so, it's the only detail I have of any history stateside. Or of course, it could just be that the radio belonged to Brent Braun (written on it when it was being serviced at some stage) and then transplanted into the car at a later date seeing as the radio is not the original one fitted. Oh to have some history...
