The torsion bar covers should have a pop mark indicating the centre of the torsion bar, this helps with the measurements. Also it needs to be done on a flat level surface and with the tyres at the correct pressure.
The tyre size should not make a difference to the suspension geometry, using this method, as the tyre wall size has no effect on suspension travel or geometry, a lower profile tyre will reduce the ride height slightly but most people want to lower the ride height to reduce the gap between the top of the tyre and the bottom of the wheel arch lip. Lowering the car too much means that the suspension could be travelling outside of its designed limits and this could lead to bump steer and possibly excessive camber and caster changes. Also the car can end up hitting the bump stops which could result in a sudden loss of grip. I would say for a car with standard suspension, it is best to stay as close to standard settings as possible.
