I think I may know someone who owned that car about 20 years ago.

Well there wouldn't have been too many black Cardiff registered 914s...

Ian, which part of the number plate identifies it as registered in Cardiff?
I have searched for info about the old 3 letter suffix type number plates but can't find anything -plenty about the new number plate system.

This is the car that was restored by Kerry Smith of VW Evolution back in 2001/2. The car had had a front end crash on the M5 and was sold through Universal Salvage. Kerry bought the car with the intention of making a competion car. When he tried to get it re-registered the DVLA got in touch to say the previous owner had notified them that the car was written off. To cut a very long story short Kerry and the previous owner got together and a large history file was handed over. The car started life in Kansas and ended up in Belguim. Kerry did a cracking job on the restoration, I was chatting with him at the recent Slough swappie and I did ask where the car was as I knew it had been sold on and it appeasr to have been sold on again. I've got a faint recolection (it' my age) that one of the recent owners was on here for a while. Anyway there you go, a nice car with a load of history. The car was featured in the long gone VW Motoring mag in October 2002. Pleased to say Kerry has another 914 which he is currently working on.

'KG' used to actually denote a car first registered in Newport/Gwent area
