Autocar Test Porsche 911T (2195cc ) March 12th 1970

“ With its relatively low first gear and excellent traction the 911T steps off the mark in a most impressive fashion. Through the gears, changing up at a true 6,400 rpm, 0-60mph takes only 8.1 seconds, this despite damp track conditions.
This is almost the equal of the carburettor equipped 911S ( 160bhp DIN ) we tested in 1966, which took 8.0 seconds. It passes the quarter – mile post in
16.0 seconds dead doing 85 MPH – only slightly slower than the early 911S
( 15.8 seconds and 90 MPH ) “
“ A Porsche makes a noise quite unlike any other car. At low speeds and small throttle openings, the predominant noises are those from the cooling fan and valve gear together with the “ring” of the air cooled cylinders. As the revs rise however, the hard purposeful exhaust note drowns all else. At full chat the Porsche makes a most exciting noise.”
“ Cornering power on dry surfaces is very high and even the most exhuberant
driving seldom results in loss of adhesion.”
“ It cannot be denied that the 911T is expensive, but it has an appeal all of its own. We found the more we drove it the more we liked and appreciated it. “
