Glad you found out why ...but silicone.... bloody hell  when did you get them done? they offer a 12mnth guarantee right?

Well if mine go off to them in the winter I shall stress that they use my gasket set from csp and NO sillycone

Downer mark.

Are you saying they have used it instead of the gaskets or as well as the gaskets?

When did you get the carbs done?

Unfortunately i think you might have to wait until next week to put a rocket up their arse as they are closed until tuesday 8th. Was on answer machine when i called earlier this week.

I have had them done a while about 2002 but didn't fit them till later in the year. But when I was talking to him he had a right old go about NOT using Silicone on the carbs!!!!!! this was the base gaskets btw..

the float bowl was full of the stuff!!!

I have got the 3 jets working fine now.. but one of the damaged ones splutters abit so I may have to change it..

what a mare well if anything I have learnt a huge amount on these carbs and will write up a report on the carbs as we all suffer from this so new people can read a over view on them ( as along as I'm not seen to be WAFFLEing !!! )

Well i've sent my carbs off to carbex.

Decided to stick with the solex's and get them rebuilt. Unfortunately it means my car is off the road for another 6-7wks - bugger.

Still..at least it should be ready for late june or early july.

If i get lots o hassle trying to get the car running right after this i am going to fit webers and be done with it.

Did you get back to carbex on the silicone issue mark?

Hello, Chaps.

I have also heard some odd stories a bout carb exch...The 912 I just bought had a pair of newly rebuilt solexes on it..

They wre done by Eurometrix in the Stes and I can tell you the work is first class: all surfaces remachined..big bushes to last a long time, stainless spindle and new butterflies with rebored throats, etc etc..

Not so cheap but probably worht it when you consider how many hours can easily be lost trying to "tune" an iffy set.

BTW, When bought it ran like a bag of bolts, mostly on 3 cylinders, despite a £5K engine rebuild..the owner had just given up on it, poor chap.

In-Valuable prize for guessing the fault...?

Kind regards
David

No, Steve....

The very reverese!

Someone had obviously assembled the carbs onto the engine, and had fiddled with the flaot level adjusters..bothe crabs had fule pouring out of the level hole when the bung was removed....

I guess few folk have ever worked on these now..

Kind regards

Interesting tho - the Linkerts on my Indians are very float level critical - once set up very reliable, in an agricultural kind a way, but just try setting em up with incorrect float levels
