Re: 914 2.0 > 3.0 GT Conversion

Awesome looking work (as usual!). The hardboard mouldings for my original back pad are in very bad shape. I bought another one which is better, but far from perfect. Putting one complete panel together with the best bits from both, I still have a couple of small parts have broken away at the lower c...

Re: 914 2.0 > 3.0 GT Conversion

Exceptional work. I've not been following your thread for a while, and just caught up. They can't have been built with anywhere near your level of attention to detail when new. If mine ends up 30% as well built as yours is, I'll be very happy.

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

Thanks. Without any doubt it is the other 914 restoration thread on here which have motivated me to learn to tig and spot weld bodywork, rather then just miging everything, and to change the objective of my project to attempting to do a good job, rather than just an average one. Watching what must b...

Re: 914 Washer Switch conversion

The current flow diagram on page 165 of the Haynes soft backed manual shows a wiper switch for late model with intermittent wipers which has the '53c' washer pump output (unused, obviously). I have not been able to work out which Porsche switch part number this is. However, the '75 California spec w...

Re: Another one joins the ranks...

Just found your the 914 thread Keith. Very nice. It's good to seem I'm in good company owning a '75 1.8. I look forward to the day when mine looks as good as yours does, but it won't be any time soon.

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

Thanks. How strange about the genuine RH grills not fitting. No idea of the history of mine other than that they are pretty old from the state of the chrome, I bought them on US ebay with all the fog light parts. I had to grind about 3mm out at one end of the radius at the top of the bumper cutout, ...

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

Thanks. Another update with quite a few pics for now, but then it’ll be back to slow progress, as this is where I am currently up to, rather than writing up work I did weeks or months ago: Time to actually start the bodywork. I've started at the front end, with the bonnet seal lip repairs and early ...

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

I've not made as much progress as I would have liked with my 914 since my last update, which was almost a year ago (embarassingly). However, I have made some progress, so an update of my DDK thread is rather overdue. After looking at the many rotisserie designs available, every one I looked at had f...

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

Although I knew the rear half of the floor needed replacing, it was far worse then I expected too, not that it mattered too much when I'd already committed to replacing it. The extent of the corrosion had been fairly skillfully hidden with fibreglass, much of which looked remarkably like the origina...

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

Kind of exciting and scary getting the shell back from stripping, wondering what it could have uncovered that I hadn't previously found. It's been in a pyrolysis oven to remove all the paint, seam sealer, etc (turns it all to ash with no flame due to the lack of oxygen), then dipped in a phosphoric ...

Re: Anyone had their 914 body shell stripped?

I finally got around to hosting my project photos online, so have started a restoration thread ( http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=63050&p=568342#p568342 , "1975 914 1.8 Restoration"). At the time of writing I have written up everything body shell related up to ...

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

No problem with the move to restoration threads, thanks. Hopefully this is where people may find my restoration thread start to get a bit more interesting, rather then just another rusty 914 coming apart. Some of you may have seen my thread in the 914 section about stripping body shells ( http://www...

Re: 1975 914 1.8 Restoration

Yes, the plan is to cover the restoration in this thread. I have many pics of the work I've done in the last year, so I'll add a few more whenever I get a spare few minutes until it's reasonably up to date. I've already done quite a bit of the stuff you've posted most recently (headlight mechanisms,...
