Hello Andy. "Should the idle jet holders have gaskets/copper washeres to seal them to the carb body , the exploded view shows none and nothing in the Roger Bray gasket kit is thick enough to take up the screw head to carb body gap after the jet has sealed in position. " This is sealed by a...

Hi Keith.

the original factory manuals are by far the best...

Hello, just saw this. If you are using the case which had aloose flywheel, did yu check the dimensions of the flywheel main bearing saddle? I have seen this get badly distorted by hammering with a loose flywheel..if you are lucky this will show up as end float you cannot correct with shims..if you m...

Biodes were absolutely fabulous and i have no idea why they stopped. To this day I have not found a better headlight for a rally car. The only problem was that with every light switched on on the old Beetle, using the biggest dynamo then available, the current draw well exceeded the rating. So one d...

Alan..that mag finish is something I'm sure many of us have been looking for! I won't tell the HSA.. Its useful to know about hard anodise: it is very hard indeed..as anyone who uses aluminium oxide abrasives will know..but more importantly for most of us it can build up a work surface significantly...

Hello chaps. Actually your all correct. Factory cams do have something stamped on the drive end, generally..as above..but most regrdinds and after market grinds are marked on the big flat end of the back journal.. The dial guage and crank timing wheel works if you are pateint and careful..but if all...

Hello Jon. I really do suggest you go from square one: compression, (and leakdown ideally too), ignition (did it actually go onto a Crypton/ Sun etc..an old fashioned type with a CRT?, do you have a strobe?, what do the plugs look like and do check each exhaust stub.), then and only then mixture( di...

How annoying.

There is a very quick way to prove the presence of any air leaks at idle..just spray some (any) hydrocarbon around the suspect area..

If the revs don't rise, no leaks.

did the pipes all get hot?

Kind regards

Hello again. reading back old posts the output is FAR too low: although it runs OK at higher revs its not making power. I tend to follow a rigid sequence with this sort of stuff: check compression, timing, spark, then spray round with quick start butane, or actaully most any aerosols..looking for le...

Hello again. The clue is the plug chop..fouled plugs can be a sign of ignition fualts of cou8rse: this would be the first place to look. But we musr assume Bob W used his crypoton to examine the plug curves.. Then richness in one or amore holes, or indeed weakness in some.. Blockage of the idle jets...

Thanks. The thread on Pelicanparts, and Charlwes navarro's site, suggest that even the SL is not up to snuff on ZDDP..and camshafts and followers need plenty more. How can one be sure..it seems the USA requires this to be published..but the formulation of the same brands in the UK may differ! Anyone...

Hello, Barry. Insulating solid walls is not straghtforward. You will very likely provoke interstial condensation: ie the water vapour inside your home would settel as water it outside temp: someehwre between inside and out this dewpoint will be reached, resulting in wet walls. Its also worth noting ...
