Lovely piece of kit. I had one of the first and my stainless j-pipes fitted a treat but I never bothered with the piddly cone baffle either. Pointless!
Love it!

Re: Car history

Still searching for information on this South African car, now in Australia. Have confirmed from the CoA that the Chassis number was indeed 102982 and the engine number 68919. Paint code was 601.

Any assistance appreciated. Merv

Re: Car history

This car like others sold in South Africa at the time were CKD and assembled and trimmed in SA. They would normally have no factory Kardex and had a chassis number issued somehow from SA, it seems. However, I have not been able to get much clarity on this process so far. The practice would appear to ...

Yep, its your car now and your money. Personally, I love these old cars for what they are, not what they aren't.

Car history

A couple of us here in Australia are helping to sell an ex-SA (Transvaal) rally '58 coupe. It is owned by a very elderly gentleman in Australia who wants to sell as he can no longer drive. We are trying to obtain some provenance on the car for him. It was assembled in SA (CKD) and is original RHD. I...

Re: 1600 or 1720.

Not so convinced. I rebuilt my 68 911 to the original stock 2.0L specs, after much thought. Every since I have appreciated that decision in terms of its value increase, through originality. On my 356B, I would do the same. It is what it is. If I want big block grunt, drive a 997, or Mustang.

Re: Original wheel colours

Thanks guys. I found that these wheels came in silver or chrome as standard. Although you could have body colour if you paid for it. Mine were blasted in 1970 and painted grey and stored until now. I have repainted them Wurth Silver with a Clear Coat now and they look the duck's appendages.

Original wheel colours

My 356 D T-6 was delivered to its Australian owner in RHD in early 63 and came with the stock wheels of the time, but painted in a grey colour. They were removed by the second owner around 1970 and 5 and 1/2" rims fitted for some rally duty. When, as the third owner I bought the car this year, ...

Re: 356 LHD to RHD

The usual pecking order in a RHD country in value and desirability is original RHD, original LHD and last by a margin, a conversion.

Re: Gearbox oil

I believe I will be using a standard - probably Penrite - 80/90 hyphoid oil. Swepco is no longer available in Australia for price reasons.

Re: New Member from Sunshine Coast Australia

Thanks Roy. Yes he was sad indeed. I see that in the US now that there are psychologists who run counselling sessions for "Buyers/Sellers Remorse". I found that my B-T6 was one of only 40 ever sold as RHD in Australia. Three were in Champagne Yellow, one with the tan interior (mine). Still...
