Re: Wot, not another '79 Targa resto thread

It’s been a while. Loads of sailing maybe, but also actually driving the SC. There are a few things that I want to do, like change the oil and repair a slight front spoiler doorstep interface issue, but job 1 is to replace the starter solenoid. On the odd occasion the starter just doesn’t engage, na...

Typically red grease, but never any petroleum based grease as that will cause the rubber elements to swell. I always apply all over the seals, both when fitting seals onto pistons and then pistons into calipers.

Bin the pistons. Calipers look OK in the photo

Re: Size difference between 911 & 964 Windscreen

Yep, I have a heated 964 screen in my '79 SC (using the 964 seal without any of the original filler pieces)

Re: What did you do in/on/for your Porsche today?

Twin outlet exhaust box replaced with single outlet. Sounds quieter in the garage but need to drive it to check for absence of droning. Also greased the throttle linkage pivot on the gearbox while the SC was in the air Well, who'd have guessed that. My radio does still work above 2k revs - I can ac...

Re: Little trip in a Spitfire - no porsche content!

You’ve got to live the sound of the Merlin engine.
They do experience flights over the Solent, down around the needles, etc. Always gets my sailing students wowing

Jealous as hell, as I’ve frequently seen but never experienced the ride

Re: Dazed and confused

I'm one of the 24% that (after many years in my case) did not renew last year. I applaud the Board's attempt to understand better (no splitting my infinitives here) the members wants and needs, but IMHO, the 'organisation' is trying to cover too wide a base, and my fairly specific interests (restori...
