Re: Membership to PCGB

Just to join in as an occasional visitor to DDK and as an on-off member of PCGB since 1968 ! The best event for me in the last decade was the annual 'Classics at the Castle' ( Hedingham ) , which was not an official PCGB organised event , but PCGB wanted to take it over to market 'Porsche Classic'.....

Re: Any 356 for sale ?

Hi Matthew , everyone wants an A whether tatty or restored and immaculate . At least you are after a coupe rather than a speedster so you may not have to sell your house to get one. I am going to comment from a background of 50+ years of Porsche ownership starting with a '63 356B S90 in 1968 and cur...

Re: 996 / 997 gt3 /RS

Yoda knows what he is talking about having owned some ! You dont say whether LHD or RHD , or the budget you would be comfortable with. My inclination would be to go for one of the early cars ( Mk 1 996GT3 ) as they came out of Weissach , and a Clubsport version . Not so many made and will provide go...

Re: I’m thinking of buying the BaT 356. Good move?

Having looked at all the pictures and all the comments I think the car is OK . I think the price it failed to sell at is OK too . If you get it at close to that then you have a car you can use that someone else has paid to restore . Result. The best way to check it out if you are not a 356 expert is...

Re: Tyre recommendations for a 356A

Hi , welcome to 356ing ! as 356Monkey says , Michelin XZX are appropiate tyres to fit and have the right period look . They were fitted to my outlaw pre A which ran 15inch wheels from a 356C , and I replaced them with the Pirelli Cinturato CA67 . The CA67 have a similar look and the right profile an...

Starting a 2.7 six on Weber Carbs

My engine always starts right away BUT lately it will not turn over unless the throttle is held down a little . If the throttle pedal is not depressed it just behaves like there is a flat battery , solenoid engages and motor wont turn at all. Once it is started you can soon leave foot off throttle a...

Re: Opinions on these 36's for sale

If your friend is young advise him to wait a few (5?) years when these cars are likely to be significantly cheaper than today . If he can't wait then he needs some good advice before investing. What’s your thoughts behind this? I’ll be nearer 50 than 40 in 5 years time so prime 356 buying age and w...

Re: Opinions on these 36's for sale

In reply to the original post , buying a 'good' 356 is not a straightforward proposition if you don't know much about them . If your friend can take time to go to events where 356 owners have gathered and ask questions and look at different cars that would be ideal ! There are about 200 356s registe...

Well done Jeremy , looks like you had good weather too !
I was sorry I could not be with you in the pre A , however your car looked pretty spectacular !
Are you planning on a repeat ?

Re: Another one joins the ranks...

Hi Keith , I went through exactly the same process with DVLA needing an inspection of a pre A I imported from Australia . Their first offer was for me to bring to them ( Swansea) for inspection , presumably on a trailer . Of course I arranged it to be done where the car was ( central London , W14 ) ...

Re: time to paint

Adrian , Aquamarine 5707 is a great colour so I hope it turns out OK for you. Re the Wilhoit match cards , I bought one for a '55 colour - Speedster Blue - and it looked nothing like the existing colour on my car ! In fact the card was actually Sky Blue which is a subtly different and later colour (...
