and another.....

the rear shock absorbers (bilstein in my case) have a circular rubber bush at their base, which with a long bolt through a captive steel tube, bolt through to the aluminium trailing arms

my question is whether it is possible and OK to ease out this rubber bush so I can grit blast clean the housing, prior to spraying, and then is it OK to push the bush back into place

thanks a lot

Hi Jonathon,

This bush is normally bonded in, so all the rotation of the lower mount is contained in the rubber rather than the rubber moving against the tube. Maybe just mask it off, then clean the paint off after spraying if you want.

My Bilsteins came complete with a yellow painted bush, so I guess they put these in first at the factory. :)

Leave them in. Blasting will not affect the rubber. Just make sure they are not put in a baking oven after painting!
