Temp Gauge How hot is hot?

I was wondering how hot my 911 was running. Recently I noticed that since the warmer weather was arriving that my temp gauge reads over the bottom block but never rises much over that area. However after a few killer hard driving runs around the A roads and then a few launches at high speed on the motorway my gauge was reading over the bottom block but still way on the lower qtr of the gauge.

Can anyone explain what the different marks on the gauge mean?

Also what temp figures do you see on your own cars?

My car has never been over the bottom (cooler) qtr of the reading. I can easily touch the engine grill and hold my hand on it. So I think its telling the truth… also when I open the lid the heat isn’t all that bad.

Sorry about the poor quality image.

mine stays in teh same area , although on my scale it stays around 90. When 'giving it some' it rises to 100 (which is still only 1/4 up the scale)

Highest temps I have seen were after doing 140 down the mulsanne in 2004 ;)

Out of interest, when I run Mobil1 my temps are lower. I have some Castrol GTX in at the moment & the engine is running slightly warmer
