Has anyone had any trouble trying to remove front seats

I spent 2 poxy hours trying to get the front passenger seat out. I can get the front four bolts out and the outsides ones at the back but the seat won't move foward far enough to get to the last set of bolts. The drivers seat moves right foward giving a good couple of inches clearance but the passenger will only half clear them. I can't see anything in the runners stopping it, but it stops with a good clunk, it's not as if it's just a bit sticky. It's been driving me mad.

The only reason I'm trying to get it out is because I had a problem with a slightly binding rear brake. So this morning I've got the caliper off and it turns out the pistons were obviously a bit more corroded than first thought, and in trying to get them out to clean them up and change the seals, the caliper cracked. Boll£cks. Has anyone else had this?
Not only that, they were uprated to ali calipers.
So I thought I'd try and get the seat out to get to the upholsterer while the car's off the road.

Alloy rear calipers ?

Yup, definitely. That's what I thought?

Not now, no. It's round my Dad's house.

They are definitely alloy. I've cleaned it up a bit and it's bright silver and there is no rust on them. I've looked some on ebay that are steel and these arn't! Not that it really matters now, as it's knackered! I wondered if they are front ones (I'm a bit new to all this)??

Alloy 'S' front calipers have 3.5" mounting hole spacing whereas the rears have 3" spacing.

Has your car been uprated in terms of engine/suspension ?

Not the engine, it haas been lowered.

I take it they're not frony calipers then

I had exactly the same seat problem: I found that one of the bolts that go upwards from the seat runner into the seat frame had loosened of, and had then dropped down, effectively forming a second 'runner stop'.

From memory I think I slid the seat as far as poss, and shone a touch down the runner and mangaged to tickle the bolt far enough back into it's hole to get the runner past it.

I may be interested in them anyway..I have a pair of rears but will not sell them unless for rebuild..

Blimey Tim sounds you've had a like a nightmare , try and put up some pictures of those calipers (with a tape measure accross the mounting holes), someone will know what they are.

To quickly tell if they are front or rear, where does the brake line go into the calliper? On the front is in the middle of the calliper and the rear is at the top of the calliper. I don't think there is an alloy rear calliper, so I am not sure what you have. As others have suggested a picture will help.

Here is a pic of the alloy front and standard rear calipers of my 2.2. These were taken just before I vapour blasted them.

The car is at my parants, but I will get some pics tomorrow and post them. From memory the brake line went in at the bottom of the caliper

Hi if the brake pipe goes in at the bottom the calapers are on the wrong sides left on right and v v.

Here a couple of pics of the caliper. It's definitely a rear one, the bolt spacing is 3 inches so I have got some replacements. Just wondered what these ones are.

And, the brake line comes out the bottom so I guess they are on the wrong side!!
