Are Export 56 really trying to sell a 2.4s for £48K, and a 2.4t for£32.5K. Is it me or are these prices absolutely ludicrous. I know they are nice cars but think what else you could buy for the money.
What does anybody else think?

As I am lucky enough to own a 2.4s I suppose I should be pleased that the cars are going up in value. In reality I am not really that bothered because I am not going to sell it but I doubt very much if I would buy at those prices.

I know 2.4s's have been selling above £40k for a while so it is not really surprising if someone's going to try it on a bit.

Are they ludicrous prices? Something is worth what someone is prepared to pay and it seems that there are plenty of people prepared to pay high prices for the best cars. BUt at that price it would have to be one of the best.

Prejudiced i am , but try building a car like Ferrymans for less than £50k inc donor car ................its not easy ;I looked a the black car now at Export , think it was featured in a well known supplement some years ago, under not particularly close inspection revealed some very nasty problems ................may have all been rectified in last couple of years ? But otherwise certainly not £40k plus
I think the reassurance is knowing a bit about how good were the people that may have worked on cars in last 5 years or so ............largest expense appears to be body in every case .............pays off to read these Forums

I reckon there are justifiable £50 k cars out there..................???

1973 2.4S's have been undervalued for a long time when compared to 1973 2.7RS's and have similar performance whilst actually being a lot rarer & potentially more fun with their narrow back end & skinny wheels

They are great cars - the value player should now be looking LHD where nice cars can still be had in the low to mid-20s. Or at least they could last week!

The answer lies in the fact that *all* good classics are going up - not just Porsche. Have a look in Classic & Sportscar and the prices for good classics are holding or going up.

If one assumes a rational market, supply ( of good well done restos) to reflect saleability at economic cost of resto.

Which is as has been pointed out well above 50K..60 would be the least I'd say, done right.

The "discount" which applies to 911's at present may have many explanations...including the vast amount of bodged up tat out there... fear of this may depress values..

Just imagine for one moment that Porsche released the 1972/3 2.4S as a new car tomorrow..I doubt they would find any way to do it below 120K,...and it would sell at that..with the "factory" imprimatur...

Its the "cottage industry " nature of resto which diminishes buyer confidence..and prices attained

I think David's correct, just what would Porsche charge for a 'brand new' 2.4 911S?

So maybe the money I've spent may not have been too reckless.
I think Early 911 have presented me with - as near as dammit - a brand new 2.4 911S.
I feel that for a genuine, matching numbers, UK, RHD, donor car plus the parts and Nick's labour etc his charges were very reasonable.
For the same money I could have bought a brand new Boxster.
How many of us here covet a brand new Boxster (and its depreciation)?
How many of us here covet a brand new 911S (that should hold its value, maybe)?

I don't intend to sell. The car has already led me to this forum, I've had the fortune to meet some good guys and it's my passport to some interesting days out.
It's also great fun just driving it.

So, I for one am happy with what I've spent and it's not with any view to investment. I know Vic has also tipped plenty of money into his car and very fine it is. But he's using (and abusing) it day in, day out. How many of us would consider such a car as a daily driver? Respect to him and all us here that use these cars without too much regard for values.
Maybe because their performance isn't embarassed amongst modern cars and that you can use them without concerns for reliabilty or fragility helps explain the prices.

Anyway, I say join in. I don't know how he does it but Nick's turned up another early RHD car. It's more fun than stocks and shares so throw some money at him and he'll turn it into something you can have fun with (and no, I've no affiliation). You might not get all your money back if you had to sell but you don't loose much if you buy wisely.
Restoration's not cheap and that's why the finest cars may just be worth it.

There is a lot of money around at the moment, pushing up the prices of shares, property, fine art, classic cars, and many other commodities.

And, those who sell these products will always be trying to push the boundaries further. Will it last? Who knows? Any economic downturn or global instability and the bubble will burst - as it did in 1990.

IMO Export 56 have some interesting cars. some of the RSs have looked a bit and some of the others are optimistically priced.

Having watched Export 56's ads for a couple of years now most of those cars sit around for anything up to a year. I have never seen one in the flesh so cannot give an opinion on the quality of the work. In fact I'd be interested to know if anybody has and what it was like

Well they did have that Rennen type that dropped from £44k to £28k, and was there for ages.

... & from what I hear, eventually sold for significantly less than that.

I'm surprised that Export 56 are still in existence.

what you advertise a car for and what you sell it for are often very different, export 56's prices are the highest I've seen in the UK and I don't belive they're actally selling cars for those headline numbers.

Still if anyone offers me 35k for my car I'll sell it!
