Does anyone know where there is any porsche breakers in the UK? I know of two douglas valley and prestige salvage but neither has the bits I want, can anyone suggest anywhere else?

What do you need?

The main item im strugling to find is a G50 torsion tube, prestige salvage has one but he wants to sell me the whole back end not just the tube.

Just got back off the phone to Neil again trying to convince him it can be removed without damaging any of the other panels, He wants me to go and see him TMRW! anybody need some 1/4's?

Managed to get neil at prestige to do me the torsion tube on its own, and resisted his attempts to sell me a whole back end that I didnt need.

If anyone is in need of some early bits he has a 73t in for breaking, it also has a nice set of 15" fuchs in nice condition with no curb rash, just minor scuffing on one wheel where the accident damage is. Not sure what they are though the fronts looked like flat 6's but the backs were different mybee deep 6 or 7's?

How did you plan to fit it?

Its not at all simple..or cheap..

Inside the chassis boxes round the torsion tubes are no less than four separate panels to be reaffixed..its almost impossible to do this in fact.

Not to say that no-one has "claimed' to have done it correcty..!

The plan is im going to cut the bar about 6 inch from the frame rails at either side. I will then cut the new tube down to the right size centralizing it in the midle of the car. I will then have some tubular steel turned down on a laith so the it is a very tight fit inside the torsion tube to make two strengthening inserts. I will put these in the reamainder of the old tube then slide them inside the new tube so there is a 3" overlap. This will ensure the tube is straight and will also act to strengthen the joint. I have also built a jig frame welded into the back of the car that the banana arm mounts bolt through this will ensure correct location of these crucial mounting points. I will then check all my measurements and if all checks out will weld in the new tube.

Thats the plan anyway. A few people on rennlist have done the G50 conversion by torsion tube replacement, however not this way I think using a jig helps to garuntee correct alignment of the tube. I also have the later seat floor section which incorporates the extra supports the G50 torsion tube had.
