Seats...also

I've got, as I should imagine many have/have had, a knackered drivers seat and a fine passaeger seat. Today I bought a pair of the same seats, again the drivers side shagged, passenger side etc.... the only difference being my drivers seat doesn't recline (stuck nearly upright) and the new one does. My thoughts being I could swap the mechanism from the shagged drivers seat to the good passenger seat.....but the so***ng thing doesn't want to come apart. I've been at it for an hour and I've only got one screw out. 
They either won't turn or just spin as if there's a nut inside the seat which is loose....Any thoughts, surely it's not rocket science? My back is killing me!
