Hi all,

I've decided to rebuild my 1972 2.4 since she's so riddled with leaks she started poisoning her inhabitants with oil fumes when he's not actually moving! I'm changing the chain tensioners anyway but am wondering if the group thinks there are any other worthwhile modifications I could make which might slightly increase the power (approx 30% more) whilst maintaining her drivability?

she's US spec so stock was 140bhp

I'd gighly recommend E cams and 2.2S pistons.....

This was the spec of my carb 2.4 motor which is truly wonderful..

Unfotunately there is no guarantee the stock T MFI will worlk with E cams, and as you know the rebuild is veery costly...

A swop to carbs may be a more economic long-term bet...

Its hard to do much with the T cams in there..raising the CR is problematic with petrol available..

Another way to approach your question is what is your budget?
Pistons and cams is the place to start. (1) You could bore the case and heads to accept 97mm and go to 2.7cc or (2) fit some higher Compression piston set from a 2.2 E or S. Both options will require changing the cams. I think you can get your T cams re-ground to E but not to S, or find some replacement ones.

Also as David says both options will require either a change or modification of the induction, but I do wonder if the difference between using a T MFI pump with option number 2 is really that great.
