Following on from an earlier thread . . . .
Prettty vauge question, but for the record, can we discuss which gearboxes will fit which models without modification.
A specific question: can a 1969 car (which should have a 911 gearbox), take a 901 gearbox without modification?

1969 models originally had a 901 gearbox.

Hello, Phil.
Not really easy to do right.
The clutch op and clutch differenece are fairly obvious..and the cable flywheel and clutch change take care of most of it.
But there is also a difference in the raitio of the pedal..the detail of this is not clear to me..
early 69 was 901, late 69 ( 2.2) was 911..
Kind regards
David

Yes it can all be done.
A 69 car had a 901 mag 901 box (one year only). The start of the 2.2’s (1970-71) used mag box but had a different clutch (pull to operate rather than push). But to properly fit a 915 box in an early car (ie pre 72) you will need the correct 915 drive shafts, and maybe stub axels, the 915 shift rod, which is 15mm shorter than the earlier ones and also the throw on the 915 clutch pedal is longer so really you should use a 915 clutch arm in the pedal cluster. Also the 915 box may require more clearance between the rear seats (ie, hammering the body work slightly).
