Thought I'd crawl in here for a good old fashioned scream-

20 days ago we traded in the Mrs 3 year old 320d for an all singing all dancing X5, this car was (note the was) the dogs danglies, factory sat nav, tv, dvd, ps1, black windows, leather, drivers memory, upgraded big time audio, phone, voice activation, i'm a lazy sod sliding tray in the boot to put loads on and then slide them back in, and not a fairy 3l or 3l diesel, a full on hairy chested V8 mustering a tiddly 14mpg

any way 2 days ago some f*"@kers broke in and stole the keys to the X5 and the 5 series estate, had their been more of the w%*kers they would also have made off with the 911 and 914, so right now the cars are either in bits or in a container on their way to timbuk-f-ing-tu

and to top it off, we were asleep upstairs with our baby and did the dog say f-all no he bloody didn't.

So thanks very bloody much who ever you are.

But at least the keys for the beemers were downstairs and they could find them... I imagine things could have been a lot worse if they had come up stairs and demanded the keys from you

Bad news...

The exact same thing happened to my friends new Cayenne just before Xmas. They broke into the house at night, stole the keys and drove it away.

This was also in Herts. Sounds like there may be a gang of these losers doing the rounds at the moment

It was lucky that the keys were downstairs, and thats all they took, no house keys or garage keys, keys for the 911 and 914 were all in the same place too

Exactly right, the police also mentioned it, that they were coming for those cars and they were leaving with them so it was really lucky, we slept through the whole thing (as did the dog).

Mrs is totally freaked out that they were in the house, so on the off chance they come back, a no mucking about alarm has just gone in, calls the police and all sorts, also know someone who is an armed response office and its also set to call him directly too, locks changed, cameras that record. and lots more lights to go in over the weekend.

So right now there are two very very well protected rental Corsa's on the driveway.

That does sound like a gang. What is needs is another spanking 4X4 left for them but about 20 people round the corner to give them a right good kicking when they strike. W****s like this never learn until they get a good kicking.. I wounder if that Scrote in Southsea learnt his lesson from my mates..

carefull with the retribution there ol' fella, a friend of mine did the same. He lives in Austria, thieves tried to take the keys after breaking in, only thing is keys have a small bell on them, dog hears keys, dog thinks walkies, dog discovers tealeaves in hall way, dog takes matters in to her own hands (paws, teath, etc) end of story, tealeaf will not have any kids but my friend served 30days for assault

A lesson for us all there I think - I always lock my car keys away in a secret hidey hole even when in and around the house.

Bad luck buddy - give the insurance co some stick and get the cheque asap!!

Yeh its common everywhere. Happened to neighbours of ours as well. Worst one i know of though was a mate answering his door at 6.30pm mid week jsut after getting in from work. Two fkers with sawn off shotgun standing there and politely asking him for the keys of his M5 (his 3 year old soon standing behind him).

Car was used for a job and then left with keys in the ignition.

He sold the car straight away and 2 months later got a call from the new owner saying he felt he was being followed home on more than 1 occasion. He was...and he too got rid.

As for the key left downstairs bit....I always wonder whats the best/worst thing to do. I use to hide the 911 keys ..... but still is it worth taking the chance that they'll come upstairs???

not sure i could sleep in the same house again sometimes it makes you wonder why we spend our money on cars

but if they have specifically for your car & they are going to take it no matter what..... I'd rather they didn't 'ask' me or my family to help them find the location of the keys

It really is concerning what this country is coming to....

Thanks again everyone, though I'd risk 30 days in the clink for that. Helem, if you ever meet my Mrs please please don't say that to her, otherwise we may well be.

To top thing off, Direct Line give you a rental car great, but its only for 2 weeks, spoke to claims today, and they say we should see some dosh in about 4 to 6 weeks, and after the way that the handler spoke to my wife, once they've coughed up, they can forget insuring any more cars along with the home insurance, dog insurance and direct response too, tossers!

I suppose like many people, after the event, it has made me realise that it isn't always the cheapest that's best, all of a sudden £100 for personal effects is a problem, especially when it won't even cover the cost of a pushchair, let alone sunglasses, CDs, walking boots etc etc etc, and that for the security upgrades to the house and front of the house would have covered the cost of 2 trackers.
