Fuel pump

Just seen Pelican's price for a fuel pump for a '72 MFI engine (not the MFI unit itself, just the little in line pump which sits by the rear nearside arm) - made me choke on my wine!

Is the pump exclusive to the MFI set-up? Unless I am missing something any fuel pump which can deliver adequate pressure should do but perhaps that is not the case.

No cheap VW options or other makes?

logic dictates so long as a pump can deliver the correct pressure / flow then you can use any pump of that spec.

How much is pelican wanting?

Try Mittelmotor in Germany, they have a very good on-line catalogue and speak excellent technical English. Always had good dealings with them.

Thanks Ian. I have had dealings with Mittlemotor and have always been pleased with their service. My question really was if there was something unusual about the fuel pump for the MFI engines because the price seems excessive.

I don't know of an alternative to the Bosch mfi fuel pump - it provides an operating pressure of ~ 15psi (pumps for carb-equipped engines produce only around 4-5psi) & has 3 connections: an inlet from the fuel tank, a return line to the tank & the supply to the engine.

I seem to remember buying a that type of pump for my 71 2.2 from eurocarspares. Had no problems with it. Definately no more than £120 at the time but that was about 10 years ago.

I seem to remember that Bert Gear (Berlyn Services) used to have them for around £225...

... & I think you can get a discount for being a DDK member.
