I haev a 'red' bar bonnet badge on my '73, which also happens to be cracked

I have been thinking about replacing it with an 'orange' bar bonnet badge. I seem to remember you can get good replicas of the orange badges. Anyone know a good source for these & wether they look authentic? If not should I try & get hold of an original orange bar badge (although I could think of many more things I would prefer to spend my money on

)

The 'replica' orange bar bonnet badges are available from Stoddards but in my opinion don't look authentic - too gaudy.

However, the look can be improved on by some premature ageing...

They are $44 and here's what they look like vs the red bar job.

mine hasn't yet made it on to my car, i'm trying to figure out how to age it a little, any tips Andy?

try soaking it in bleach for a few seconds.

I cleaned our poxy gold taps in the bathroom and left abit too much bleach around the spout. Certainly dulls the gold down abit.

Maybe abit risky, how much are they?

Funny you should bring this up Martin, I was going to order a front valance for my 914 tonight, so if any of you guys definately want one of these badges I've checked and they have them in stock, let me know ASAP, i'll be putting the order through around 8pm tonight, sorry for the short notice, I'll pm all those who expressed an interest anyway.

Just got mine today - many thanks Darren. They look pretty good but as was said previously, very shiny.

I painted some bleach onto mine (tried the back first) - left it there a for about an hour. Didn't seem to do anything really - some black stuff came off when I wiped it (then rinsed it) but couldn't see it had changed the appearance.

Then got some wire wool and went over the whole thing gently. This seems to have done the trick for me - it's taken the shinyness off all the raised bits so they look a bit less bling - I'll try and remember to post some pics tomorrow - too late now

OK here's a pic - not got any 'before' pics though

Not surprisingly the wire wool has scratched it, but it does make it look older.

Bugger - I've tried twice now and can't get a decent close-up picture of it - you'll have to take my word that it looks a bit older, although it doesn't look as bad as it does in the picture!

I too have tried bleach - even the super strong one we have here at work hasn't touched it.
I guess I'll have to grit my teeth & attack it with wire wool. Gulp.

Glad you all got them ok gents, ahem (coughs) yes they are quite shiney arent they, but it sounds like wire wool is the way forward, i shall try mine tomorrow if i get the chance.
