DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Time for some more novice questions.....

On the back of the E I have just bought it has Dunlop SP Sport 205/60's. On the front it has Firestone Firehawks 195/60. I have not heard of the Firestones, and does it make any difference having a narrower track at the front.

Any views ?

Almost most of us here will be running different widths/profiles front to rear. Unless you really want the same brand all round I'd wait until a pair needs replacing then match the set up. I've actually got Dunny's outback and Firestones up front, I think the fronts will go before the rears, I will then see what Dunlop options I have for the fronts.

Nothing wrong with either brand so long they're in good shape.

I used to buy Firestones for my VWs in the past, mainly because of the size availability and they also have a slightly retro look to the sidewall that sometimes suits an older vehicle, just my thoughts though.

I think you will find virtually all the modified or performance 911's have narrow wheel and tyre combo up front and fatter rubber out back. My own car runs 7 and 9 inch wide wheels with 205 upfront and 235's outback.

Funny - I've been thinking I might go back the other way at some stage...

Had Michelin MXVs in 185/60 on my old E, which allowed me to slide around nicely in the wet, whilst the 195/60 Yokohama's on my new T just seem to grip really well, even in the wet.

The lack of grip was always one of the more fun bits I thought - have more fun at slower speeds without getting speeding tickets...

prior to 1973 all road going porsches had the same width rims & same size tyres back & front. I suppose it depends if you want the 'stock' feel for the car.

On my 2.4S I'm running 195/65 15's Verstein Sporttracks ( sp??) , which have been superb. I am toying with going back to original 185/70's

I,m on 185/70/15 all round on my car, this size seems hard to get hold of
except for xwx which are too expensive for me, what are the alternatives for 185/70/15 in other makes.

185/70 x 15's are also available from Vredenstein (although only in HR rating) & Fulda.
