Just be aware if your car is being restored or just garaged / stored and not SORN'd

Seems like DVLA have time on their hands to go through classic car registrations and see which ones are registered and not insured! (and NOT SORN’d)

More money in the coffers of DVLA.

They prosecuted 1,451 in the last week of July alone..........Ed Sheeran being one of them, which has brought this to media attention.

Basically if it is not SORN’d it needs to be insured..........

That assumption reflects a common misunderstanding. A motor trade policy covers a repairer's own liability for vehicles in their care and custody. It does not satisfy the registered keeper's separate obligation under Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE). Under CIE, introduced by the Department for Transport in 2011, it is a legal offence to be the registered keeper of an uninsured vehicle. The only exemption is a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN), which removes the CIE obligation for as long as the vehicle stays off public roads. Sheeran did not declare a SORN, and the DVLA identified the gap in December.

Good point

As for Sheeran… as an Ipswich fan who’s converted an Aston to electric and makes his music….

That’s 3 unforgivable sins

Does a Sorn'd car need to be insured?

If it is SORN’d it does NOT need to be insured, provided it is not used/kept on a public road.
To put it in perspective if your car was not SORN’d and you kept it on your driveway they would have you, even though your drive is a private place..........do not ask me how they can do it, its just the rules they make up.
